    Dilema...need help

I am due for an oil change. I've already gone 300 miles past the 5k due time. This would be my 1st oil change since I owned the car. Now I was going to hve my turbo installed next and have the oil change done with it since you have to anyways. But now since I need to change my rear wheel bearings I will have to wait for the turbo install due to a shortahe in $$$. Can I drive 300-500 miles more before doing the oil change or do I need to do it now and then do it again when I change the turbo. I dont want to do it twice because its a waste of time but I do not want to hurt the engine either.

Dude, the oil doesn't die at 5K. You'll be fine driving on it. Don't push it to 10K, but another few hundred won't hurt. Just check your oil and make sure everything is in check.

once i went like 7200 miles between oil changes with my old audi. not a good idea, but it was fine and nothing bad happened. full synthetic lasts a lot longer than conventional oil.

I was under the impression that synthetic should be changed at 5k max and conventional at 10k max. That is why many change thier synthetic at 3k.

Why not just get a filter from the dealership or somewhere like that, Walmart special Synthetic oil of your choice (they actually carry Royal Purple ) and cruise. If you have a way to jack up your car, you are good to go. Can be done at $30.

Seriously dont sweat it. a few hundred wont make that much of a difference. you wont ruin your engine. I had a corvette that i bought that was neglected and it went 20,000 between the oil changes, granted it was sludge when it came out but it wasnt ruined.

Synthetics last longer than conventional. Often times people change to synthetic simply for the longer intervals. Many car manufacturers are increasing oil change intervals as well with synthetics, including European car makers such as VW/AUDI. BMW even going as far as saying every 15k for their naturally aspirated cars.

The best way to know when you should change your oil is to send a sample in for an oil analysis, but it's not really worth the hassle. Using synthetic, I personally change my oil every 3-4k - but I know it's good for much more than 5k miles with the turbo and a true synthetic but there are many reasons an oil can break down faster - such as not being properly at operating temp before running it hard, average rpms, etc.. So I, along with many people like to change it early.

Unless it's your track car that was put to good use in the last 5000 miles, you should be fine.

willowtree, even though I agree he'll be fine.. thats a bad comparison/example imo.. especially with the history the 1.8t has.
