    Need help choosing suspension

I just put b7 17s on the car and love the way they look and the better grip since i went from 205 to 235 but the car feels too high and my wife's stock golf feels lowered and that it handles better around corners compared to it. I don't know if i should go with
    a) stratmosphere's vmass coilover kit
    OR
    b) ecs tuning's bilstien strut/shocks, h&r race/sport springs with the ecs coil sleeves kit.

all eight control arms and ends links were replace 14K km ago with febi kit and alignment done. I'm looking for better handling and a good look but not slammed to the point that i can't put my foot under the car. What else could i do to improve handling? any suggestions welcome.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

i would say go with H&R coilovers. I just got them and my friend has them and the ride is really nice a tad stiffer than stock and the handling is muuch better. I wouldnt go with a spring shock set up but thats just me. spend the extra 200-300 and get coilovers.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

I was looking at the ecs coil over kit with the bilstien struts/shocks and h&r sport spring which was coming to around $1200 shipped to me with duty and everything and i was willing to pay that so i will look into how much more for the h&r. What do you guy think of the vmaxx coilovers? They are like half the price. Also my current shock still feel quite good and don't bottom out or make any loud noises but they do have 164,000 km on them. Do you think if i decided to go with just h&r lowering springs that i should leave them there or swap them out? they are the red sport shocks.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

I would swap shocks at your milage (164000km=101000 miles) while you are at it. As for Vmaxx coilovers there are bunch of reviews. I've seen more bad then good but I follow by the "you get what you paid for" theory. Do a search and you will find plenty of reviews.

SEARCH button is key my friend. NOW USE IT.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

VMAXX i would run as far away as possible!!!! I feel that they are more for show and not go. way too soft and is meant to just dump your car and have that look, i personally like the stiffer stuff that is a bit more stiff that sport suspension. i dont want to feel like im in a cadillac rolling down the roads. through PUREMS and stuff you can get the H&R for $1100 which would be cheaper than that spring shock set up for $1200 you were mentioning. also with the VMAXX they are half the price for a reason, youre totally getting what you are paying for.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

Ok i'm definately looking to improve the handling so don't want soft vmaxx. Only reason i wouldn't want fulltime lowered ride is because we get quite a bit of snow up here in toronto and with the winter we had last year it's not getting any better. I hate hearing snow scrapping at the bottom of the car and would beat the purpose of having a quattro car with snow tires if i lower it for good with just springs. I will look into how much ecs will charge for the h&r kit. Also since i have 235/45r17 on the car now i can't even slide a pinky between the tire and the shocks. Do you think if i lower it with coilovers i would need wheel spacers and if so then what size should i go with? I'm just looking at around 1.4inch all around. Thanx for all the help guys. Wish i would upload pics.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

Definitely avoid VMaxx. As the search button will tell you.

Bilstien struts and a set of drop springs will make many people happy. Koni coilovers are nice as well, and the price goes up from there. A non-Vmaxx coilover setup is ~$900+ and that'll keep a decent ride quality. Can a drop spring and strut ride nice too, Yea.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

ok i check on the h&r coilover kit from ecs and they are about $1650 shipped with duty and everything and that's a bit steep. I looked into h&r sport spring with bilstien struts/shocks and it will lower the car by 1.25 in front and 1 in the back which won't be as slammed as race spring and are $950 shipped. which i can live with i guess. Anyone know anywhere else where i can get them cheaper? Also i'm running 235/45/r17 oem b7 a4 rims so would i need wheel spacers and what size?

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

used to have koni shocks and vogtland springs. Way too bouncy. Now have H&R coilovers, much happier This is the only experience I have had but I would say save up a little more and go for the coils.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

You can find those konis in group buys for about $800.

The H&Rs are a nop notch street set up too. You can't go wrong between the H&R or the Konis.

Eibach makes good stuff but very few run the coilover sets up in the a4.

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

I ran KW V1 coilovers for a few years. They were great on the track but harsh on the street.

Stock sport suspension with H-Sport bars is surprisingly good and was my winter setup. I eventually just left it that way and even ran it on the track.

Now I've got Shine Racing suspension (400 lb springs and revalved Bilsteins) and ride and handling is great. It is the same height as stock sport but the handling is right up there with the coilovers. I no longer have to worry about speed bumps, big road dips, snow, etc..

    Re: Need help choosing suspension

not to muddy the waters but there are some very good reviews over on aw regarding the eibach c/o that avalon sells for a grand. sounds like a really nice setup, i'd feel really good about eibach [german, and a very large manufacturer] and their stainless bodies which rocks.

i run the ecs h+r sport / bilstien sport and it's COMPLETE bullshit. the adjustability is a joke, and it's harsh AND doesn't handle that well. i've driven cars w/ stasis streetsports and it's worlds better.
