    GT2871r Full Set Up Questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Slowly putting together a full gt2871r setup and want to make sure i get everything necessary to run properly but still have loads of questions. Im trying to keep the car with stock internals for now and eventually replacing them down the road.

    ATP exhaust manifold
ATP downpipe with v-band adapter to 5 bolt
    Garret GT2871r internal wastgate turbo w/ t25 - what A/R to get?
    Milltek 2.75 exhaust
    630cc injectors - which kind/brand to get?
FMIC - Would an ebay fmic be efficient enough?
    Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump
    MBC - Any kind?

    • Which MAF? MK3, MK4? Ford Lightning?
    • Which FPR?
    • Which Lightweight flywheel/clutch combo?
    • Would i need to modify / change the coolant/oil lines? or should the stock ones be good?
    • What size is the turbo inlet? 3"?

I plan on getting a custom tune once everything is all said and done.

If i forgot anything please let me know! any feedback is greatly appreciated

Re: GT2871r Full Set Up Questions

You should go with the T3 flange. Then get the .82 A/R to run a smoother ride without having to swap internals. Though you always can still blow rods. (no expert, just what I think is right).

Siemens is the way to go with injectors.

You are getting a 400hp turbo. Just find one that can support that amount of flow.

TurboXS mbc seems to be praised by many. Get the ball/spring one combined with bleed valve.

FPR-Shamless plug. I have a used ECS AFPR w/Autometer gauge I can sell you for a good price.

The MAF you go with depends on what tune you go with.

    LWFW and Clutch-Southbend stage 4

Edit: What kind of car you got? Your sig says you are pushing the 30v.

I know now i should have gone with the T3 flange, but i already bought a ATP T25 mani. How much of a difference would you see between a T3 and a T25 anyway?

and yes the sig says 30v..but is soon to change, looking at a 1.8t today and more than likely taking it home.

also is there anything im missing?

Re: GT2871r Full Set Up Questions

Good go on the switch. I don't really know the difference, you would have to wait for someone else to chimmey in with experience in that matter. But I just know that the t3 flows better. As what that "better" means, I have no idea. I would assume a smoother power band. I would still advise you to swap rods though either way. Better safe than sorry.

    GT2871r
Now we're talkin serious power. You have pretty much 2 options. The .63/.64 A/R or the .82/.86 A/R. The .63 and .82 are T3 flanged, and the .64 and .86 are T25 flange. T3 flows better. With the .82 you will have more lag, but more topend power. You also will not have to swap out rods. With the .63 you will have much faster spool (20+psi before 4k), but you will have to swap out rods. You will need Tuning, Exhaust Manifold, Custom Intake, VR6/Ford Lightning MAF, 440cc/630cc Injectors, AFPR, MBC/EBC, Exhaust, FMIC, Clutch, New Mounts, and Walbro 255. (new fuel filter at the same time is a good idea).
You need either .64 or .86 A/R. And I assume the .86 has more top end power and .64 has quicker spool.

Re: GT2871r Full Set Up Questions

The T25 exhaust housing will chock sooner then a T3 with the same a/r. If you are going with a T25 flange you might want to get the biggest a/r you can get which should be a .86 a/r

You shouldn't need 630cc injectors for a 2871r unless your tune calls for them but 550's are going to be more then enough for a 28.

Most of the things you are asking about really all depend on the tune you are going to be running since the tuner will tell you what you need.

Thanks mike - i just sent an e-mail to EPL the other day asking about their custom tunes and everything i would need for them to tune the car. someone told me they are only tuning the 2.7t now so i sent them and e-mail and im waiting to hear back from them on that.

going with the .86 A/R the car will take longer to spool but give more top end power? what would it spool at because i don't mind a little bit of lag but don't want anything crazy, so in my case maybe the .64 A/R would be better?

If it is going on a 1.8 go with the .64, the .86 will spool a bit later but wont fall on its face at 7k like the .64 does. If it going on a 1.9-2.0 build then the .86 would be the right choice.

Your most likely talking about a 400-500 rpm difference between the 2 for spool up.

yah i think the .64 A/R will be best for now..i rarley bring the car to 7k anyway and i dont have time/money for a 2.0 build at this time. now what about oil/coolant lines? will all the stock lines and fittings work, what will i have to upgrade?

You will need to buy a oil/coolant line kit that has all of the correct flanges, fittings and 4 new lines.

What year 1.8t are you looking for? Also, have you considered a chris tapp tune?

yeah im still looking around and trying to see what would be best for my application. the reason i wanted to get a custom tune done at EPL was just because i will need more of a conservative tune because i have not done and rods or internals yet.
