Ok so, I got pulled over today for the stupidest reason ever and id fight it but it’s not worth it if I loose. I was driving down a 4 lane street (2 lanes for each direction) and im taking a left into another street. A douche bag guy in a truck is at least 200-300 ft away from me so I decided to make my turn. I started to turn and the guy sped up and swerved into the right lane to block me and sat there and give me the finger for about 5 seconds blocking my car. So after that traffic had caught up on the furthest lane so a nicer guy waited for me to complete my turn. Sooo a cop 2 cars behind me turns on those !$%#%@ lights and pulls me over. He said "I failed to yield for oncoming traffic" which I thought was a totally unfair / WAY borderline call. So im pretty pissed and on top of that he told me to roll up my windows (they were down way before he pulled me over im not sure if they can do that but I wouldn’t doubt it) and sees my tint. So im waiting for a 2 for 1 and when he gets back he wrote me up for 1. Failure to yield, 2. Tinted taillights and not my window tint for some odd reason. I guess 35% tint is the way to go on windows since ive been pulled over twice and they let me go for it.

So here’s my dilemma, The law for tinted taillights is they have to be visible from 300 ft away. I can post up pics but you can see the light through my taillights when I brake from WELL OVER 300ft away, its perfectly visible. So I can...

    1. Fight it and possibly leave it on (unless im interpreting the law wrong) / get some lamin-x and re-smoke them and lower the car later.
    2. Leave the tint off so its just the normal taillights, lower the car, and get a red line painted around my rims

Im leaning towards #2 just because I think it will look good and I got kinda sick of the taillights even though they were pretty sickk

Let me know what you think I should do

i would take a measuring tape and have a buddy video tape everything you do. Have someone press the brakes then walk 400FT back if you can and show that on a long tape measure and video tape the measuring tape and of course the car. Also show your emergency blinkers and your signals if you can and the judge will not process that ticket. Also in regards to not yielding I would let that go as its his word over yours and the corrupt system we have always favors our highly corrupted police officers, even though there are a few out there.

good idea man I will definatly do that. Even if they let me go on the tails I might still take them off for a new look who knows but it would be great to prove them wrong haha

I would at least try to fight the failure to yield. It may be your word against his but if you are able to show that taillight tint citation can be thrown out there is some reason to believe that the judge might side with you after having shown that the other ticket was nonsense. Or he may not. Not all judges like cops, they are not necessarily on the same team all the time. The judge may have a totally modded BMW that he tracks every weekend.

Failure to yield is such crap!

    Re: Need suggestions!

yea it is a stupid ticket.

funny thing about the taillight citation is the cop was 1 car behind me the whole time and theres no way the guy was 300 ft away from me haha. Im not sure about fighting the yield ticket because thats risking my insurance going upppp and a point staying on my lisence. But im definatly fighting the taillights.

Does anyone here know the smoked taillight law well? Is it that the brake lights have to be visible 300 ft?

    Re: Need suggestions!

You should absolutely fight the yielding ticket via a mail-in defense. Be very articulate, write nothing that indicates guilt, and tell your story clearly indicating how you did not fail to yield (e.g., "the guy in the other car waved you on" or some other story the cop cannot dispute since he didn't see the situation from your perspective. Whether you lose the mail-in defense or not makes no difference to your insurance. Always do the mail-in defense.

As for the tails, itn't is a 'fix-it' ticket? Just remove the lamin-x and get it signed off and it should be a $10 tix. Did you buy the car new or used? If used, state that it was on there and didn't know. The swap-out idea is great, but sounds like too much trouble.

Post pics of your car! :-)

    Re: Need suggestions!

Hey thanks Drew, I will definatly look into the mail-in defense.

Yea the tails ticket was a fix it but it wasn't lamin-x :-/, It costed me about 200$ to get them tinted and they did an amazing job but Id hate to see 200$ get ripped off my car lol

pics (sorry if theres too many hahaha)
