I emailed a couple people trying to get a group buy going for HID kits. I ended up fiinding a guy on ebay whom does deals for forum members and bulk buys. I know many of you dread ebay, but I assure you he currently has 100% feedback. Here is his response to my email.

    Dear seerlah,

We do do group buys and forum members pricing as well. We also have perfect google merchant feedback!
Here is what we can offer to your forum members, along with an additional coupon code. Please post these only in your forums:
    http://www.retro-solutions.com/ForumMemberGB.html
    Coupon code is: Member3

    -Todd
I just ordered mine for $150 shipped (kind of sucked because original price is for $159 on ebay. so you basically save $9). 55w H7 5000k w/lifetime warranty on bulbs and digital ballast. I will write a review for them after I install them. If you want one, simply follow the link and don't forget the code. The code was for $10 off.

    Re: HID Kit

    Review:

I adore them. But I installed Valeo Ecode headlights at the same time, so maybe that is why I adore them even more. Light output is very nce and looks rather nice in the night time. Install was maybe a 2 on a scale from 1-10 w/10 being the most difficult.

What I did was use a dremel and made about a 1" circle on each of the back of the housings for the groument to fit. I could not get the clip to fit through the hole, so I cut the 2 wires attached to it, spiced them together (after having groument in place) and used these rubber tubes found at Radio Shack to seal it with a lighter so no water can get into it. Sealed around the entire groument with silicone and hooked them up. The hardest part of the install was maybe finding places to put the ballasts. I will get pics of them when the sun goes down. But all in all, I like them.

Edit: Pardon if my mods are not up to other's standards

    Re: HID Kit

Would the 35W 3000K H11's work for fogs even though the stock bulbs are 55W?

    Re: HID Kit

I don't see why not. But why not just get the 55w? I forget the percentage overload per circuit load before the fuse blows, but if you are under the load there should be no issue. Go for it . I personally would go for the 55w though.

It works like this. Each circuit has a load rating for total wattage.

    volts x amperage=wattage.

Your battery gives off ~12.5 volts and your alternator ~14.3volts. The fuse determines the amount of amperage to give. That determines the total VA (volt amperage) which is the same thing as wattage. That is the total load capacity the circuit is rated for. As long as you don't go beyond what the load is rated for, you are good and no fuses get blown. If you go beyond what the load is rated for, you are in territory of blowing fuses or shorting sh*t out. But that can be remedied by simply upping the amperage (fuse) and/or changing wire rating for amperage needed. If you understand what I just wrote, you are safe to go 35w with the lights. You are actually leaving a little more room for the load for whatever else you may want to hook up to that circuit.

It's only because they don't sell 3000K in the 55w

I was just looking at the same thing. I want them in my fogs, but also wondering how they the bulb would mount in the fog? Does anyone know if it's straight plug and play for the fogs? Or do you have to cut and silicone them on?

    Re: HID Kit

There should be no issue with using the 35w HID. It is not about the wattage, but more about the light output. The 55w halogen bulb should hold no comparison to the 35w HID. But when comparing HID wattage to another HID wattage, that yields a different answer.

For the fog light kit, not so much plug and play. Though should not be difficult at all [looks like you take out fog light, cut 1" hole for rubber groument, cut off the stock connector, cut off ballast connector, and splice them together to make one harness(white is posotive and brown is negative). silicone up, then plug and play]. And it seems that the A4 and S4 for the B5 platform share the same application for converting fogs to HID. Clicky Click

Yes I seen that and have it bookmarked The thing is the S4 fogs are different from that and looks a bit more difficult. I was hoping there was an easier way, but I guess not. I now hate that I had 3k hid fogs in my B6 because I have to have in my B5 and it's going to be harder than I expected.

    Re: HID Kit

So the 35W should be gravy then? Any DIY for the B6 A4?

I'm thinking about 6000K for my headlights (D1S bulbs, etc).

    Should look good, no?

    Re: HID Kit

^ That is a good deal. I would go with whatever is cheaper. Can't go wrong with $100 for a 55w ($75 for 35w) kit w/lifetime warranty. The GB I set up just happened to be the best deal I could find with lifetime warranty on bulbs and ballast. Other ones that offered a GB for me were maybe 10-15 bucks cheaper, but only offered at max 2 year warranty.

    Re: HID Kit

I'd go for it . I actually kinda wish I knew about these ones. Could have saved me like $50. But actually, after shipping it would have saved me like $25. Not too bad of a loss for mine.

Are they actually providing 55w ballasts and actual 55w bulbs???

We are offering to pay for shipping for anyone that will send one of these ballasts to us for testing.

We have found they are using 35w bulbs on their 50w kits in contrast to what is advertised.

Our HID Kits produce up to an incredible 5000 lumens and add that great HID color we all love. Step up to HID with one of our amazingly tiny DDM based kits. Or purchase one of our practical Apexcone Brand Premium systems. Either way, looks, safety and driving enjoyment are coming your way.

Don't be fooled by our focus on european performance cars. We have HID kits for nearly ANY car or motorcycle, just provide the correct bulb size/type and get ready for superior lighting!

Some notes about HID kits: While a normal halogen bulb produces light by heating a resistive filament until it glows, HID bulbs produce light by way of an electrical plasma arc. Its almost completely the same as an electrical welder. In a halogen bulb, reducing the resistance of the glowing element, you can get more current draw and therefore more heat and light. In an HID, the same physics are not at work. The bulb does not determine the current flow in the circuit. Just like on an electrical welder, you can increase the amount of current by changing the source. This is why all of our bulbs are rated for 60W. We use the same bulbs in our 35W and 55W kits. This is true for almost all suppliers of quality kits. The bulbs are all the same in most kits as far as construction and power handling capabilities. While you may occasionally receive a bulb from us or any supplier with a 35W sticker attached, this does not affect or limit or determine the actual tolerance or output of the bulb. Whether the bulbs we supply from varied production factories have a 35W, 50W, 55W or 60W sticker on them, they are all exactly the same in power rating. They also all can be used with any of our ballasts which actually determine the output power of your kit.

Copy and paste from the DDM site.

    Re: HID Kit

Almost all OE D2S (xenon) bulbs are rated to handle up to 70w of peak power, however that does not make them 70w bulbs, they are all still in fact 35w bulbs. Quite simply, a bulb designed for one wattage will not exhibit the same specifications when driven at another wattage, higher or lower. Sure, on after market ballasts they may still operate outside their ratings, but there are changes in intensity, color, heat, and arc height. A 35w bulb will be specified correctly for these parameters at 35w, a 55w bulb would only be correctly specified for its parameters at 55w driving power. Place a "55w bulb" on a newer Matsushita ballast and see if it runs without shutting down. If it keeps running it a 35w bulb, if it shuts off with in the first 10 secs. its not 35w. Give it a try, see what happens. If you have a sample D2S bulb we will gladly perform the test side by side with a true 55w bulb.
