typical bird crap.. so I washed it off with a pressure washer, car wash foaming stuff

did a regular wash and wax BUT i noticed the "patch" is now in a duller shade of black..

is there something I can use to remove this or will I have to polish and buff it out....

Re: bird crap.. stained my paint.. solutions ?

I am in the same boat. As soon as I parked my car in the garage I noticed a large bird poop on my Z4's hood. Black car and all - I was mortified. I think I messed up by not taking the car out of the garage and washing it. I used Mequire Ultimate Detailer - soaked the hood with it - which I hope didnt do more damage by the fact that the hood was still hot after driving in the TX sun. I wiped it off and then tried Meguire's Paint Cleaner and Polish but the spot in clear coat is still there.

I am usually very careful with bird poop and remove it as soon as possible. This one was dry so it must have happened few hours earlier. In the TX sun you can imagine.

My hood and the rest of the car needs a complete swirl remover anyway - will this stain go away too?

    is it smooth?

if not, clay bar or some 50/50 isopropyl water mixture should take care of it

if it is, polish is likely needed

Those bird dropping that land on the paint of a car are highly acidic...as they dry, the etch into your clear coat. That is why when you wipe the droppings away, there is a dull spot. The only way to get that out is to have it polished out...with a PC or Rotary. Sometimes a vinager/water mix works, but not likely.

Here is what I'm talking about:

Stage 1: Bird droppings, tree sap or insects land on your car's waxed finish.
If wiped off immediately, these contaminants seldom present a problem.

Stage 2: The sun comes out. Moisture in the contamination evaporates but acids in the droppings become more concentrated, eating through the wax and into the top paint or clear coat layer.

I want a license plate that says

    H8 PGNS

But anyway yeah i hand washed and dried my car earlier this afternoon, and sure enough, about an hour later there were two baseball sized pigeon shits right on the driver's area of my windshield. Luckily this time they hit the glass and not the paint. Needless to say i have waxed my car no less than five times in the last month so if a pigeon were to shit on it, I am hoping it will glide right onto the ground.

Re: bird crap.. stained my paint.. solutions ?

    Just my expierence with this.

Bought a used 2005 red A4. Pait was nice, not to many nicks or scratchs, paint was in good shape. However after its first wash I noticed those dull spots all over the hood. I figured it was poop or sap that sat to long in the sun. So i took a clay bar to it.

Clay helped a little but to my eye they were still there.

I work for State Farm, and as such we get body shops trying for our business all the time. A perk of this is they will do full details for us for free.

I had them take my car for about 4 hours and wash, polish, wax. When I got my car back the spots were completely gone. They were not able to remove all the swirls from some parts of the car so I am going to find a better place but they did get rid of the dull spots.

    Hope this helps!

Like Twista616 said, most bird droppings have to be polished to be completely removed.

Here is an example on a A3 soon to be stage 3 @ 385 bhp.... It will be at Socal Euro Aug 10th.

    Bird droppings and swirls

    Polishing it out

And all done, swirls and bird etching gone.

This is just after a wash. Car was detailed 2 months prior and wax was still holding up well.

Re: bird crap.. stained my paint.. solutions ?

I'm not really helping the situation, more like adding to it...I have the same problem on my hood. There's 3 or 4 dull spots that even after wax are still there. I don't remember them being there when I got the car a few weeks ago, guess I just didn't see them. I really don't want to attempt to buff it since it's a black car and there aren't any noticeable swirls and I know there would be after I did it.

the way to remove bird bomb etchings is through polishing. If you do it correctly you will not add any more swirls onto the paint...
