    Tire Rotation

Hey guys, quick couple of questions. I am running Bridgestone Pole Positon tread and it's NOT unidirectional.

    1. Do i rotate front to back like usual?
    2. How many km/miles would you think is a good interval?

    Thanks,
    Ben

    Re: Tire Rotation

Front to back, every 5K if you want to get max life from your tires (B/O our nose heavy cars). Make sure you also get an alignment done as well at least 1-2X a year.

    Re: Tire Rotation

Keep your tyres on the same side of the vehicle (L / R). I go front to back myself. If you rotate your spare, remember the side you put it on for future rotations. Get a four-wheel alignment twice a year, I do mine when I flip my summers & winters.

Good rule of thumb is to rotate every oil change.

    Re: Tire Rotation

but if your car is lowered I'd recommend getting them dismounted and rotated to the other side also because of the camber will wear out the inside of the tires more. Maybe every other rotation.

Should be about $100 but that's better than replacing prematurely worn tyres.

That's if you have bi-directional tires. If you happen to have directional tires, you have to go from front to back. I rotate mine every other oil change.

Not the S-03, I think i have the Potenza RE050A Pole Position. Pretty insane traction but i'm worried about the treadlife... kinda pricey.

Thanks for the info guys. I WAS thinking since it's NOT unidirectional, i could put L on R (since the left tires always wear out faster).

thats a great idea, bet it'll cost at least 100 bones in total. No way i can take the tires off myself. Anyone else do this? What was the cost approx?

    Re: Tire Rotation

yes dismount the tires from the rims for uni-directional and put on the other side of the car. and yes you will have to pay for mounting and balancing again which could be about $20-$40 each. But the place you had the tires installed may give you a deal. I know discount tires does not charge me for balancing, but does charge me for mounting.

    It'll run about $75-$100.

    Re: Tire Rotation

first of all lets get this straight...tires are either DIRECTIONAL or RADIAL. whats this unidirectional and bidirectional stuff? lol

secondly, at my honda dealer we recommend every 7500miles to do a tire rotation, and we do it front to back. if you have radial tires, you could make an X while moving the front tires to the rear, it wont matter. directionals can ONLY go front to back (hence: directional. one way.). remounting and balancing radial tires(or any tires for that matter) so you can put them on the other side of your car is a waste of money and the techs time. i would hate to have a customer request that. its pointless, really.

and before you guys start with the "yes it does matter if you make an X with the front tires" comments....the only time that might matter if there is something wrong with the tire. whether its scalloped, out of balance, or whatever. if it is wearing perfectly fine and youre not getting a vibration, you should be fine.

This is why you shouldn't go to this thread after you been looking at hot models on a photography board. It just messes you all up.

I happen to like to start at the front and work my way to the back...LOL

Directional has nothing to do with composition. Radial refers to how the tire was made. The opposite of radial is older cross ply or bias ply design. Save for some special tires or some special "welfare" tires, most tires now are radials.

Directional means the because of the thread pattern, the tire has to rotate a particular way, that's why you can't cross them during rotation. since the tire would then spin the other direction, making the thread not as or not effective. If there is an arrow on your tire, this indicates that it is a "directional" tire. Bi-directional tires mean they can spin going clockwise or counter-clockwise, since it will have no affect on the thread pattern.

I thought you do not rotate AWD tires anyway?
