Question Has anyone Rebuilt a K03.. Themselves by using the kit?

My seals are have gone bad on my turbo and its buring the oil and the coolant ... Im selling the car to my cousin next month and I wanted to rebuild the turbo using one of the Turbo Rebuilt Kits I have seen on the net..

I wanted to know if anyone has used any of these kits and have rebuilt any K03's themselves. I want to find out how difficult it is and how good does it stand up.... Other than the seals the turbo is in good condition ... I just dont want to buy one off someone and its probably in worst shape than the one I got...

    THanks

The turbo is not complicated, but it is a precision assembly. Make sure the kit includes detailed instructions if you get the kit. Ask for more info you have questions or if the directions are missing any details or if anything isn't clearly understood. I also recommend only genuine 3K/Borg Warner parts kits be used. All turbo parts must be cleaned completely before reassembly. Extraordinary caution and care is needed to prevent damage to the turbine or impeller blades during disassembly and reassembly work. The impeller is a light interference fit on the turbine shaft. A heat gun must be used to heat the compressor impeller to about 250 F NO more, to remove. Also, the reletive position of the impeller on the turbine shaft must be the same as before disassembly, when reinstalling, to maintain the precision rotational balance of the parts after reassembly, if balance is lost, or even a tiny bit off, the turbo will fail quickly.
