    120k too much?

I'm looking at an S4 that has 120k on the odometer. It's a southern car, very well taken care of. Are these cars dependable with high miles like this? What service should I be sure is done? Any service coming up that would need to be handled?

t-belt will need to be done soon, if it wasn't completed recently.
turbos could be a ticking time bomb.

you would without a doubt wanna make sure that the time belt and water pump were done. This service should be done anywhere from 70k to 100k miles, but this always isnt the case. It pays to have the car checked buy a Audi/porsche mechanic. The stock Ko3 turbos are prone to failure. If they are still original with 120k miles I would buy the car!! Most likely it wasnt beaten on and was left stock. Anyway be prepared to spend around 3,500 when they go.

"dependable high mileage B5 S4" ha, you'll find these cars can be very temperamental, especially as a daily driver. but like everyone said, tb, water pump... turbos, historically speaking, tend to go around this age (mine did at 116k)... definitely have it pressure tested for boost leaks, an extremely common one is in the trottle body boot. in my car, all sorts of pain in the ass sensors go from time to time, notably the O2 sensors. most recently, in fact getting replaced tomorrow was a left rear wheel speed sensor... go figure. not to dissuade you though i love my car

    Re: 120k too much?

Are there any service records with the car? I would definitely do the timing belt and everything involved with it asap. Also, if its a 6spd i would go ahead and do the clutch as well. The stock SAC mechanism on the PP sucks and has a knack for leaving people stranded. Besides that, i would check for oil leaking from the turbos and motor(especially the vc's), check all the bushings/rod ends in the suspension, cv boots, mounts, and check for brake fluid coming out of the bottom of the bell housing on the trans...which is a sign of a bad clutch slave cylinder. Im sure people will chime in for other things to look for...these are just things that were bad on my car so i know to look for them lol. Good luck man.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm going to have to check and see if there are any records. I already asked him about a couple of the things you guys mentioned. He's out of town now though, so I'm waiting on a response.

    Re: 120k too much?

My previous one had 175K and ran like new on original turbos. My current S4 has 138K on it and it runs good. I just got it and have a few more things to sort out but it runs solid. There are some good high milage S4's out there. I would say make sure they are hwy miles though.

I have 88k miles on my car and she runs perfectly well... no issues at all.

What's the price of the S4?
