    Suspension Setup for the Track

Hey guys. I just wanted to get your opinion on suspension setup/setting to optimize the car (I drive an 05.5 S4 sedan, stock at this point) for the track. I.e. - thicker rear swaybar only, upgrading both front and rear sway bar, coil over settings, and even tire preference. One of my goals is definitely to reduce understeer. Any insight/experience would be a great help. Thanks.

Re: Suspension Setup for the Track

I did the Hotchkis RS 4 rear only (set at the most aggresive setting) and my car was very neutral at a 2 day VIR Audi event in the spring. I dont believe a front would have made a differance, but I think they made a few changes between 05.5 and 07. Im not sure you can do much better than neutral without coil overs, but the car will be very capable with just some swaybars, pads (fluid), and good tires. I was one of the quicker cars in my group and that included a few M 3s, Z06, RS6. Gotta love the quattro for making up for our inabilities...:)
    good luck

just upgrade the rear bar. people that tell you to do the front have obviously never taken their car to it's limit. these are cars that have alot of heavy understeer, you need to counter understeer with oversteer which means upgrade the rear only

I would do the following in this order:
    1. driving instruction from instructors at track days.
    2. driving instruction from instructors at track days.
    3. if you get hooked then upgrade your brake fluid to Motul or similar.
    4. Upgrade your brake pads.
    5. By this time you'll probably need new tires.
    6. RS4 rear sway.
    7. Stasis c/o system or similar.

Be prepared to spend some money and have a blast!

Re: Suspension Setup for the Track

yep. points 1 to 5 - DONE. Got to the point, where I feel that my car needs the extra help while driving around the track, that's why I brought this up. Thanks for responses, definitely in line with what i'm thinking off. prob going to get some kw v3's (just b/c my buddy can get me a good deal) and a thicker rear sway bar. And maybe aftermarket exhaust, just b/c i feel left out going down the track when compared to other guys w/nice exhaust sounds, while i'm all stealth.
