Audi installed then both ways, but it worked backwards at low stock boost. Problem is that they never last very long when installed like that because you are putting pressure on the bottom of the valve along with pressure on the top thru the vac line, this will cause the rubber diaphram to rip sooner then it would if installed the correct way. When you install it with the boost going into the side tube there is no pressure put onto the valve which means there is less stress on the diaphram. Only piston type of valves should be installed with the boost pressure against the bottom of the valve.
