reach your hand in there and see if you can get to it with tools. What bolt do you mean? I thought the wastegate was held onto the support bracket by nuts and the bolts were part of the wastegate? Or are you talking the clip that connects the wastegate rod to the exhaust housing flap?

pretty sure he is talking about the 2 bolts that hold the bracket to the compressor housing for the wastegate. It happened to me too along time ago. I just grabbed a few bolts and found one that would go in, I have no idea what the size was. They put to short of bolts in there from the beginning as well so mine was like 1/4 longer. I did it from underneath, it's kinda a pain. Don't think you will be able to get to it from up top.

Most likely can't do it from up top.

I want to say its an M8x1.25 but can verify when I get home. Don't see why the bolts on my 2871R are any different (and they are in a baggie right now since my turbo is apart).

yea it is the bracket to compressor housing bolts. I guess i should get some washers in case the bolt it is too long?

    Thanks guys.

Re: GTRS Turbo wastgate bolt size?

I think I used a 3/4" bolt. And one of the bolts actually broke through into the compressor housing where the air flows very slightly. The original bolts have like 1 turn of threads and that is it.

Re: GTRS Turbo wastgate bolt size?

I just checked the bolts on my 2871R.

It definitely is an 8mm dia bolt and the length is about 1cm (short). A 13mm wrench fits the hex head.

Not sure on the threadcount. 1.25 is definitely too fine (the turbine bolts are 8x1.25). Perhaps 8x1.50 but I've never seen an 8mm bolt with a 1.50 threadcount.

Re: GTRS Turbo wastgate bolt size?

I had an 8mmx1.25 stud (from my 034 trans bushing) and tried to thread it into the compressor housing but it was resistant. Maybe due to the loctite in the housing? I dunno and wasn't going to force anything beyond what my fingers could torque.

Re: GTRS Turbo wastgate bolt size?

i had to spin the housing on my GTRS when i first got it and stripped the hole on the housing that the bolts go into when i tightened it back up, i almost threw the thing though my windshield i was so off my rocker! but noticed that the bracket that the actuator attaches to is pretty thick so i was only reaching the very first threads in the housing. went to the hardware store and got two new bolts that were just slightly longer then the originals (plus some loc-tight to put on the threads) and it worked GREAT! i am kinda happy that i did do it now because i know it's holding better then the original bolts were.

chances are your going to need to remove some stuff so you can at least reach it if not pull the turbo.

    GOOD LUCK!
