So I got some second hand calipers from an online junk yard. I assumed the pistons need to be tightened in by rotating them to the right. So that I can fit new pads in them. Well it seems neither will go down. Is there a different way to put the piston down? They look in perfect condition.

They have to be pushed in and turn at the same time, usually with the proper tool. It can be done without it..not easily..

    Re: rear calipers

vice grips - get the points on the end in the groves of the piston and twist clockwise. you really dont even need to push in much at all.
