    034 Motorsports Tranny Mount?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well, i was under my car looking at fabbing up some kind of shield to direct more air through the intercooler and i noticed i had some reddusg fluid on my drivers side engine mount.. sure enough its broken... so im probably going to order some 034 street density engine mounts but i was also thinking about picking up a tranny mount as well

anyone have one and offer insight on if the benefit is worth the money?

    Re: 034 Motorsports Tranny Mount?

They both rock. I have the street version of both. I came from much more aggressive engine mounts too and these can still keep that engine and tranny in place without any added vibration like the semi solid mounts I was using before. Definitely worth the $$$. I did though use different hardware than what came with the tranny mount. See Jeff's DIY on audigeeks.

There's several people on here that have upgraded the tranny mount. The 034 street density or track density really cleans up the slop and allows for really smooth shifting. I have the Street Density motor mounts and the Track Density tranny mount (like Lee - rxrep). Fantastic setup! If done right, you won't notice any extra vibrations. It's worth it!

    One.

And as for the track tranny mount, the stock one is SOOOOO damn weak. Did you notice it when you did your clutch? When i did my clutch (since the mount was off) I noticed that my mount was literally swaying back and forth, lol. I get nice, loud clunks from the drivtrain if I dont ease out the clutch in just about EVERY gear.

I have the street density motor and transmission mounts.

I bought new bolts for the transmission mount like Jeff@AG suggested and the install was a breeze. http://www.audigeeks.com/forums/index.php?topic=2785.0

    Re: 034 Motorsports Tranny Mount?

I recently replaced both engine mounts and the tranny mount with the 034 street density parts, and it was a huge improvement. I think if I were to do it again, I might go track density next time, as I can still feel a little bit of movement in the drivetrain under hard acceleration.

    Re: 034 Motorsports Tranny Mount?

The mounts are pretty easy to install.

Unbolt the front lower bolts (13mm socket) and jack up the engine a few inches. You can then unbolt the top (13mm socket on driver side and 13mm wrench worked on passenger side... or bend the heat shield out and use a 13mm socket). Installation is the reverse.

Unbolt the rear and jack that up a few inches. You can then unbolt the rear transmission mount from the trans (3 bolts, 13mm socket). Once the mount is off you can remove the bushing (Txx torx and 17mm socket I believe) and install the 034 bushing. Installation is the reverse. I found it easy to use bolts on the trans bushing than the provided studs. I was then able to lower the trans onto the crossmember and let it hover about 1cm off the crossmember. Then used my hands and rotated the bushing until the two lined up (I used the provided bolt and nylon lock nut. Tightened it enough so it was tight but I could muscle the bushing around to line it up in the crossmember.) Inserted the two bolts a few turns (by hand) to guarantee engagement. Then lower the trans with the jack and tighten everything up.

    Re: 034 Motorsports Tranny Mount?

I changed all (3) mounts recently to the track density. Vibrations after first installing them inside the cabin of the car, it sounded like a gutted out race car on steroids, kind of like the WRX STI with a full 3" Exhaust note of a snoring Flat four! It brought giggles to my face! Instantly, driveline slop was gone, clutch engagement was smooth as butter. Had the hood opened and asked my wife to rev the motor, the engine didn't budge 1mm. As for people saying they can't stand the vibrations, after a couple of days driving it, your body and ears get accustomed to it and the car feels normal again to you. If my 8yr old daughter and 20month old daughter don't complain, then that's a good sign. My wife on the other hand was like, "WTF did you do to the car?" All i can say is, I like 'em, lower rpms give off the most vibration mostly between 2-3k, a little more rattles and squeeks than most will be accustomed to because it's an Audi in their mind and it shouldn't do that! But to each is own

id would have to admit, their website is pretty clear (and when i called, their employees made it quite clear as well) that track mounts will cause a lot of unwanted vibrations and that unless my car was strictly for the track, i should NOT get them...

    Re: 034 Motorsports Tranny Mount?

Like i said before, "To each is own!" I made my decision and i like it alot and my 2 daughters don't even notice the change, the vibrations are not that bad once, 1) the mounts are broken in, 2) Your body and ears get acustomed to the added engine noise reverbed into the cabin and it only lasted a couple of days for me it could be as much as a week! This is my opionion and i'm coming from a 1.8T jetta that had All VF poly mounts and that was not as bad either as other people would make it out to be! The really bad vibrations are when you first start the car up after install and that last about 2-7days after that, it's like normal........Me personally I don't like my engine to move one bit and Issam i thank you for the mounts if i didn't already! If going to the track mounts are too much for you then you have, the choice of using the streets or mixing it up a little bit (2 street mounts, 1 track tranny mount) / (2 track mounts, 1 street tranny mount) or if you don't want the vibration at all, just go back to stock and continue to replace mounts when they bust!!!

Yea I kind of wish I got the street one now, but I am installing a TP tomorrow, so I am going to loosen the motor mounts, snub mount, and tranny mount again and try and get everything realigned....again (this time the motor mounts too)

Finish installing my test pipe yesterday and since I was under there I decided to realign all motor/tranny/snub mounts. It turned out I forgot to tighten the center bolt on the tranny mount, so it was kind of just sliding around in there, lol. Anyways, with that bolt (the big center one) still loose I loosened the motor and snub mounts as well and let the engine idle for say 1 minute and tightened the tranny mount first, followed by motor mounts and then snub last.

Now there are almost no vibrations, through the whole drivetrain. There is defiently some over stock, but coming from what I had (before I realized that bolt was loose), the "moaning/creaking" sound is now gone and there are virtually no vibrations felt through the footwells.

Would it be useless to install the street engine mounts on a stock 1.8t? I noticed many of you have added power to your engine so the mounts will maybe be better. Should I stick with OEM or the street engine mounts from 034?

It doesn't matter if you are stock or modified.....it's a huge improvement in having your motor be that stabilized with these mounts! I am barely modified and i love what these mounts did!

    Re: 034 Motorsports Tranny Mount?

I bolted everything right up without running the engine but prior to snugging everything down I gave the engine a huge shake with my hands to settle everything in. Then tightened both engine mounts and the trans mount.

From last night's initial drive.... There is no vibrations I can feel and the engine hardly moves at idle.

FYI: I've got Street Density all around

    Re: 034 Motorsports Tranny Mount?

Just an update/word of advice to those replacing the trans mount. Last night I noticed a strange vibration/harmonic when accelerating, so today I crawl under it to check it out, and guess who forgot to use loctite...

One of the three bolts holding the bracket to the trans is missing, one was loose to the point it would have fallen out had it not been captured by the cross brace (minor thread damage), and the other was only finger-tight. I'm just glad I was only a half mile or so from the house and not on the road trip I was considering taking this weekend.

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in one of the howto posts, but it's worth mentioning again: -don't forget the thread-lock!-
