Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was playing around on the website and built an MR Evo. It was over 40K ( WOW). I was watching Top Gear and they did a shoot out with the new STI (they didnt like it) and the new EVO (They really Liked it). Maybe me think about getting one in the next year or so. This is was I was thinking to myself.

    1. It has AWD
    2. 291hp 300lb.ft
    3. Dual Clutch
    4. Performs very well
    5. I happen to like the look of the Evo 10
    6. Has Recaros seats
    7. BBS wheels Brembo Brakes
    8. Nav
and a whole list of other things.

Sounds good. I've heard the Dual-Clutch auto mode is better and completely responsive. Apparently it does the shifting better than you could do in manual, is what one test said.

I looked into that car a few weeks ago and finally decided against it. It's overpriced, the interior blows. For 35-40k the interior better look decent. And you can make those same power figures elsewhere for much cheaper, still a dope car but i'd take a GSR over an MR.

Re: wow the price on an EVO

Those are one of my favorite cars and Im also thinking about getting one in the next year or so. I feel if i get one a year old someone else would already take the big hit on depreciation. I just love the seats, nav, awd and im a big fan of a fast 4 door car that i can still fit the family in with trunk space...

The interior isn't the point of the Evo. If you're that upset about the interior, it's the wrong car for you.

If I was looking into getting out of my A4 and looking in the same price range, the Evo would be my choice. Of course it would be the GSR (I want a stick in all cars I buy), but the MR is still credible.

Re: wow the price on an EVO

To be perfectly honest, I think the Evo IX is the better buy. It still has the bullet-proof 4G63, while the Evo X has moved on to a new engine. The new engine is making some good gains for relatively cheaply like the Evo IX does), but I would still be wary of it until it is a bit more proven. But, that is just my opinion.

    I prefer the 07 Sti.
If I had the extra funds that's what i'd be picking up.
I have never liked the exterior styling of the EVO's.

I used to be a huge STI fan until the current one. I've only recently prefered the Evo. The Evo 9 is ugly as sin, but the Evo 10 looks great.

I'd look at a used STI too, but I suspect most of 'em have been run hard...

I don't like the EVO X as it looks out of the factory but my neighbor had one that was dropped w/ forged wheels. MUCH wider stance and it looked MEAN. Completely changed the car.

I really want another audi and my two picks would be ( B8 A4 2.0T/ A5 ). Its just that for the same money or less you can get a car that really moves. The downside would be that im nolonger part of this community which I love, I down graded which is true, and dropped in status.

For 35k, it's not attractive, I don't care THAT much, but I don't think your getting much for your money. The older evo's were even worse, it's not even the simplicity, its just cheap looking and feeling.

The evo IX is proven, but their already are several X's in the 10's and I see alot of potential with the new motor.

All out performance I think this car would be a blast. As a DD I am not sure I could handle it. Plus, going out to dinner in it all dressed up just doesn't have the same feel for me. Fun car, but I think I would out grow it quick if it was my only car.

I agree it is cheap and it looks even cheaper when compared to our Audis, but I think with that kind of performance, I could over look it.

It's just a matter of opinion.

Re: wow the price on an EVO

i believe the EVO X is actually slower than EVO IX and EVO VIII...IIRC.
i prefer the EVO VIII/IX over the X. for a DD from what EVO owners tell me
    its kinda brutal...tough suspension...tough brakes.

happened to race an EVO IX today. just ECU reflash and full exhaust. he was about 1/2 CL faster in each gear. we did a roll from 2nd gear i was at 5k. he brake boosted on me and got the leap...managed to pull about 1 1/4 by the end of 3rd. it was a fairly close race...he was impressed and i was impressed with my car. his plate said HAHAA V 8....he asked if i was chipped. and i told him completely stock. i said for a 4000lb car it doesn't do too bad. love it. now i wish there was some mods i could do to put me even with a ecu/exhaust evo.

i raced a stock evo and destroyed him by 3 cars and i gave up and so did he.
i raced a high modded evo on the highway a week ago...he destroyed me. he could pull a car length or a 1 1/4 per gear.

10's....is fine...i'm assuming full supporting mods...injectors, fmic, exhaust, etc etc.

an X is still slower stock than its predecessor...which is stupid. what is a crazy stoopid is an X getting 100whp with exhaust and intake.

i wish there was some bolts ons for the b6 s4 that actually made us quicker.

Yeah off the lot the 9 will be faster...but that is because the X is so detuned from the factory.

Most people usually mod their EVO's...so the best bang for the buck would be the X. Assuming you could get a base model for around 35k.

And yeah. Unfortunately audi does not have that same mod capabilty.

Re: wow the price on an EVO

Wow...the exterior of the Evo X has greatly improved, I'm really feelin it! As for the interior, I'd have to agree with a prior post that if you're buying an Evo you couldn't give two shits about how much plastic your interior utilizes. With that said, it'd be a great weekend warrior.

One thing that impressed me about the old evos is that kids can afford it, and romp on mostly anything. I think the STi/Evo age has really opened up a lot of eyes to what a car can truly encompass.

The class, styling, and prestige of owning an Audi are a few of the things I pride myself on when I get my ass handed to me by an STi/Evo!

Re: wow the price on an EVO

I think Im going to stick with Audi even though Im going to take the Evo out for a test drive. I just really need to get the taste out of my mouth. who knows, I just might get into the car and say to myself OMG (had this reaction when i test drove an STI because it was so shitty). Plus on top of everything, Im 24 and not getting younger so its not like my girlfriend, family, and Friends are going to want to see me in an EVO driving around. I guess I got to look at it this way, Can only go so fast on the roads today and even if the my car stock and the evo stock are around the same performace (evo being a little faster) who gives a flying F***. I think I just solved my own problem. Thanks anyway guys

    thats exactly my thoughts.

i had always consider getting an EVO. but pulling up to work in it or taking out clients in an EVO or an Audi. big difference. i'd keep the EVO in the garage and bring it out for weekend use after i let AMS have at it....since AMS is local to me its a plus. though i believe to work on any EVO at this point in time is an 8 month waiting period.
but i would only want to take it to the best.

Re: wow the price on an EVO

I've had mixed feelings.. some days I like my Evo, some days I like the A4. "Clients" always don't turn their heads nor care about the A4... maybe because it's older. EVERYONE no matter girl nor guy nor age says.. that's a sharp looking car. And most like the sound of the exhaust. Of course everyone asks me to give the Evo a little push so they can feel the acceleration.

The interior isn't that great fit and finish on the Evo, but come on.. the Audi isn't that spectacular either. In fact, one of the reasons why I don't have a newer Audi is that it really hasn't changed much inside in 10+ years! It may be great because any audi I sit in, all the controls are in the same spot :) Personally I didn't want to drop 30-40K on something that was almost the same as the A4.

Performance wise it's night and day. Even when driving in my friend's S4 I have to say it doesn't really stand a chance. Certainly feels nicer cruising on the highway though. The other day I noticed a nice B5 S4 trying to egg me on to racing. I didn't bother, but after we went through the toll booths I rolled through the gears up to 75mph and I left him about 4 CL away and he did the ricer flyby going 80+ mph. Funny since you'd think you would call the Evo the ricer.. :)

Re: wow the price on an EVO

Honestly when searching for my car I was cross shopping STI,S4,EVO,M3,GTI. I dont care that I dont drive the four rings brand for now. Go with something that you like. I know my status so the car is not an issue. The new S4(B8) unless price comes down is not a contender for me and since the weather, strict laws kicked in roads are trash and my a4 got banged up a few times(eventually totaled) due to poor drivers around me, Im juggling with the idea of canning the 135 next year pick up an 09 Civic-Rabbit(econobox) and a track car. Ill probably pick up a B5 S4 first drive it a few months resale it get a B6 because I always wanted one of those but when I had my A4 I would have never done a trade-in for an older B5 with no warranty while I had something newer that was giving already giving me trouble.

P.S I never understood the point of caring for what will other people think. My question is whos paying ?You(I guess) so who cares what people think. When my a4 got totaled I bought a Mazda 3 as a temporary car.Right now my friends are laughing at my clown car(girly as they say) 135I I dont give a crap I love it.

Re: wow the price on an EVO

I am on my 3rd Evo (2 Evo IX's and now an Evo VIII). Having spent some time with the B7 RS4 now, I will say...

The RS4 and Evo are in diff. leagues. The Evo is a track car in street trim. Much more focussed. The RS4 is a luxury performance sedan and has a lot more to offer which it should for twice the cost...

The Evo X tries to bridge the gap some but adding more luxury, but interior still sucks. the X MR SST is a great vehicle and I would own one if I could. But, I am currently building the VIII into a track car, so all my money is tied up there.

well for me. and just me....pulling up in my EVO with the fart can making that loud noise is not the image i want. my clients don't know what an S4 is...they see audi and say nice car. thats about it. they don't really care...but when i had my tricked out A4....i guess they never expected it...i wasn't rider friendly (w/ the suspension). and the whole look...i wanted something classy and quick stock. B6 S4 fit the bill.

as for stock EVO VIII/IX...stock for stock my B6 S4 is faster than them.
but all it took for an EVO to beat me was a reflash and exhaust. he's not killing me fast but about 2 CLs or so. so still faster. and then the really modded evos well...we know they can be crazy fast. but i wouldn't be picking my clients up in a track car. i don't need them banging their heads off the ceiling...kinda like my old A4. i'd own an EVO just to be track fast...whether it was auto-x or 1/4 mile. but i'd still have to have my audi as my DD. thats my .02 on it.

I dont like the bling factor of the 335I(too bloated).
    2.70K cdn S4 vs 45K for my 135 (65K S5) plus 13% taxes+luxury tax
3.Audi resale value is crap(new is terrible)(been there done that)
    with that difference I can have an other B6 S4(end of 2008) along with my 135I or EVO/B6 S4 or E46 M3.
Dont worry I dont really like Bmw but it was the best bang for the buck for now. If I was in the states it would be different but here its a different story. Oh well I wish the RS4 will drop more in a year or so cant wait to drive an other Audi(still have a jetta but fwd sucks).
I will never buy an other brand new Audi unless I become rich(I work too hard for my money) CPO is now my way to go.

Re: wow the price on an EVO

There are some pretty damn good points in this thread. Most of them have been said about a million times in various threads, nevertheless this is a good thread. Lets not turn it into an Audi build quality vs. all thread again.

I think the Evo is right where they want it, a streetable track car.

How are you able to keep up with a reflashed EVO IX? With just a flash they are running sub 4 sec. 0-60 and the quarter in the low 12's.

...and the new one...wow...without tuning, but with bolt-ons (intercooler, full exhaust including manifold, intake) they are getting in the high 11's.
Cool stuff with a little growl!

Re: wow the price on an EVO

Not owning any of them, I test drove the Evolution X, 9, and B6 S4. The Evo X had less lag and felt smoother and much better handling, not as frenetic as the Evo9. Loved the B6 S4 for it's immediate power in all gears.

The difference is the cost to mod. Tuners are just starting to offer ecu reflash for the EvoX, which is about $1K max, and that should easily get about an extra 100 awhp with a catback exhaust, or a mid 12 second 1/4 mile. http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta.../pageNumber=1#
The stock EvoX also goes .99g on the skidpad and about 73 mph in the slalom with the new S-AWC system (yaw control, active center differential, etc.)

TIP, a Evo tuner shop, just got 337.2 awhp with 321 awtq from a beta chip and boost controller - everything else stock on the EvoX.

I've discovered, if you do want to go EvoX, this dealer in CostaMesa, CA (Southcoast Mitsubishi) undercuts everyone by thousands, w/a base GSR 5 spd for about $29,999 new. I'm still undecided, but like the fit and finish of the B6 S4 more, but a new GSR with warranty for a just a little more money?
    http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=342884

Yes, the MR EvoX's are more money, about $7-8K more than the 5 spd.
