    Exhaust help

my last 3 cars and my fathers 4 muscle cars have been taken to a local exhaust shop that builds custom cat-back systems using Magnaflow mufflers. the systems arent stainless but they do the job. my last setup for a 2005 mini s cost about $350. it looked and sounded great.

my question is... for my a4 2t can i use just 1 muffler with a dual exit placed in the res spot? or do i really need 2 mufflers for performance reasons?

you mean run pipes with only a resonator and no mufflers?

or put a fat muffler in place of the resonator and run pipes from there

There is not much difference between a resonator and a muffler, especially when it comes to straight-through Magnaflows so I all the same.

Fluid: I don't think you'll loose power, if anything you might make more. The questions are can you pass emissions in your state and do you want to drive a car that sounds like an obnoxious fart can?

well i wasnt trying for the super loud fart can effect....is it really going to be that loud? and im not worried about emissions.

that is just a pic of what im talking about. put that type of muffler in the location of the resonator and run the pipes from there. im only saying that location because running dual out from there *seems* pretty easy, and a whole lot more cost effective.

what it comes down to is saving a buck. i can probably get this built for $350-$400 with one muffler. add on another $150? for another muffler if needed.

It all depends on your taste. Personally, I think it'll be annoyingly loud and you'll never be able to feel the extra 1-10HP increase, if it in fact makes more power. I went with straight-through, high-flow resonators and mufflers and it sounds perfect. Then again, you can always phase into it by trying your idea first and add two mufflers if you don't like it.
