K&N Filters

I've been looking into the K&N Performance Air Filter available at ECSTuning.com, and was just interested in some feedback from other drivers. Is it worth the $50? Any noticeable improvements in MPG? Also, what about the K&N Oil filter? My car is still under warranty so all my oil changes/filters are covered by Audi, but I change the oil myself every 5k miles to prevent sludge buildup. Will the K&N oil filter help with this, or is it a waste of money since Audi will likely replace it in 5k anyway? TIA.

make sure to tell audi not to replace your k&n filters. in theory, they would be smart enough to know that.

i just ordered a k&n for my a4. previously i had one on an '02 trans am and i would say the increase in mpg was pretty mild, but it also seemed to provide slightly improved throttle response. it's probably all in the head of the driver, but hey... i bought another one :)

I put one in my B6 and there was a slight improvement in throttle response, but the biggest improvement was in sound. I was able to hear the turbo whine more.

$50!?!? Are you serious? Man, go to your local Advance Auto Parts...I got mine here in Tuscaloosa 2 weeks ago. $35 out the door.

You got this for $35? If so, I'm driving down to T-Town tomorrow to get one. I went to AutoZone and O'Reilly's and they didn't have any in stock, but they were all upper $40s.

The Advance on McFarland here in Tuscaloosa had to order mine, but it was just at their warehouse in Bham apparently...it was here the next day. I have the receipt in the car, but I want to say tax and all was $38. I'd call them and see if they have any in stock before driving here. If they don't, pay for it over the phone and then come get it the next day.

It's not a part they keep in the stores, but it wouldn't take them long to get one in. I'd call around to the Bham stores before wasting $4/gal gas to drive there.

How often do you wash and oil the drop in?

Mild but noticeable performance improvement, I like it because I wanted to keep things as close to stock as possible. Didn't notice a sound increase. I felt it was worth the $40ish I paid from Summit racing.
