Settle this for me...BAT and BT

    What differentiates the 2?

I see some guys run GTRS kits with the BetaAlphaTau in their sig, yet others are running 3076r's.

I feel like an idiot, but im clueless.

Because BT owners are allowed to be BetaAlphaTau members even though they dont have a BAT setup in their car.

BAT - Big Ass Turbo - 30 frame usually 400-700 bhp
BAMFT - mine is the wallet that says bad muther f*cker on it - 40 frame with madd powa

Garrett even makes a GT60 which is good for up to 2000 hp.

Do you have a BT or BAT running in the car now? If so just shoot me a PM.

Because BT and BAT are two stupid terms, what's big for me might be huge for you, etc.

The term is used by little kids that feel the need to categorize their turbos.

I like to call them exhaust restrictors, the less backpressure you have, the bigger the turbine, shoot for that.

That's pretty much the truth... Anything with a 30R wheel is medium, a 35R wheel on a 1.8 is a bit big but fine on a 2liter.

yes, but when talking about only 1.8 liters of displacement, it's all relative. <---- i don't really know what that guy is for, but right now, he's saying that your post made my head hurt

IM pretty positive once you go to a 30R size turbo your going to need to upgrade your internals which would turn a 1.8T into a 2.0. I already did and im running a 28R.

Well you just need to upgrade the rods not the pistons or crank. So upgraded rods will still leave you with the same 1.8 displacement. You can also just increase the bore to 83-83.5 to get 1.9 liter without changing the crank.

Even on the safe side you wouldnt go ahead and do the internals? I mean your already there might as well finish the job. LOL

The rods are the first thing to go, that's the reason why they should be changed first.

Changing the crank for a larger would would require that you go with a different piston a the wrist pin wouldn't be in the same location, then you need to bore the block to at least an 82.5mm to make it a 1984cc, not as easy as just dropping in rods.

I've set up these cars with 30R's with stock internals, 15psi, all day.... too bad the clutch cant keep up.

Only really need to change the pistons if you are changing to a 20mm wrist pin, changing the CR or going with a larger bore.

some of us have 20mm pins stock. Not saying that it makes a huge difference.

My question is, why go BT/BAT and not swap pistons or change C/R? Yea it's more money, but it can also be more potential and somewhat of a safety net.

Not everyone needs to change the CR. 2 reasons for changing would be running very high boost or forced to run CA 91 octane.

I daily drive my audi about 50 to 60 miles a day and I'm running 22lbs of boost.

On a BT/BAT 22lbs is a medium boost level, high boost would be 28+. You also run 93 octane which is a huge difference to CA 91 which would be like you tuning your car on the 87 octane they sell where you live.

Yes but that 50-60 miles isn't at full boost all the time, so about 80-90% of that drive is done in vacuum.

What's considered "safe" on stock pistons? Don't some people swap in the TT225 pistons too?
9.3:1CR would seem to be a little high for 25+psi on a BT/BAT

It just all depends on the tune. There are plenty of guys running BT's on stock 9.3-9.5:1 CR that are pushing over 25psi, but they are going to end up running much less adv timing because of it. I think there are even VW guys running 30psi on the stock CR. I just wouldn't suggest it unless it is tuned for race fuel. For most people I would suggest nothing higher then 9:1 when going with a larger bore since the top ends up with less dish with the stock CR.

Its funny how plety of people bitch when gas companies add 10-20% of ethanol but think its a good thing when it is 85%.

Yes but that 50-60 miles isn't at full boost all the time, so about 80-90% of that drive is done in vacuum.

yeah I have the ability to turn it up but I never really do. And it will top out at 34lbs. I dont ever really turn it up b/c honestly I find no real use in street racing. i enjoy driving fast but street racing in atlanta will get you in some serious trouble.

Is 91 octane in CA the best they get?

Yes thats our highest normal pump gas. We can get 100 at the pump but its $8 a gallon.

Its funny how plety of people bitch when gas companies add 10-20% of ethanol but think its a good thing when it is 85%.
less mpg yes, but i don't know what you're smoking on the zero hp gains (on a properly tuned car). google the koenigsegg ccxr

    806 hp on premium unleaded
    1018 hp on e85

I am talking against "real" race fuel. It isn't hard to figure out that 116 octane is going to make more power then 93.
