    Whistle when boosting

Ok after my crazy day at the dyno I noticed on the drive to work this morning my turbo would whistle a bit louder than normal. almost like one of those whistle makes your blow thru. lower rpms in 2nd and 3rd gear. I don't appear to be losing any boost and back pressure is same. Any thoughts? I hope and pray this isn't the turbo going to shit. I was thinking maybe a boost leak but like i said I don't appear to be losing power. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

That sound is likely your turbo. My turbo was loud for 40k miles for what its worth, then eventually it gave up the ghost. I wouldnt panic, especially if you are still making normal boost, but they do tend to get a little loud prior to expiring.

It is odd. Cause it is not getting louder but it changes its tone. Goes from a Whooosh/spool sound to a whistle. I am going to assume there is no way to get my had on the turbo to check for shaft play?

Personally I woudlnt worry about it. When they go you will be able to tell plain as day.

My best advice is stay off the track. Beating on your car like that cant help.
I realize its fun, but that is a lot of abuse. Unless you want to replace your turbo's. If you were gonna go to take it to the track that is.

I have that same sound also. I am just waiting it out till i get blow them to all hell. I just talked to Jeremy at Matrix about replacing them at the end of summer, and he was very helpful with his imput. I would say if you have any questions talk to him or Justin, they can get you all prepared for the worst. Best thing i would say, is start saving up now and lay low and light with the S for a while. Don't thrash it till you know you can afford those K04's or GT's. Just my .02

No "easy" way to check. But you can pull your front carrier, then remove the inlet piping and reach in and feel for shaft play on the compressor wheel.

When you blindly reach in, make sure you don't get your hand bitten by the K03 monster. I know a guy that knew a guy that has a roommate that got herpes from his K03 monster.

    Re: Whistle when boosting

Mine has been whistling for about 10k miles now. No smoke. I have removed the DP (what a PITA!!!) and checked the shaft play from the back and it didn't move much at all (weird). I'm going to have to check for leaks, maybe buy myself a boost gauge.
