So I'm going to try Bosch Side Fire F5DPOR Plugs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've had IDLE only misfires for a while now. I was running a bit rich @ idle and leaning it out still didn't do too much. So I'm going to give it a shot. Anyone think this may do the trick. Little background, Im VAST stage3, Rs4 airbox, hitachi MAF rs4 housing, bosch GG injectors (all turned a good 90* towards fenders). I dont get misfires while driving onlyyy at idle. So Im hoping that this may do it, I read on the site that they sometimes can cure idle misfires. So does anyone agree this may do it! my car has all new coilpacks, coolant temp sensor, etc. ICM's good too. im runnning stock plugs now.

I've had them on my car since early April. Awesome plugs! I very rarely ever see misifres. I have about 12K miles on them at this point.

no never had them . when i had the huge misfiring problems, ICS performance put stockers back in, i asked to put these in but he said nah its okay. they dont know audis as well as bmws, so whatever lol. im just hoping this does the trick, OR im going to tell mike to turn off misfire recog @ idle, because its just so annoying to have the misfires @ idle be the reason why i get the lovely light that says "CHECK"

Ok guys, but woudnt these spark plugs make your idle worse.. they are rated at 5, 2 steps colder than stock..... I can see where theyll be great under high boost, but wont they foul out under normal nonboost driving? And isnt a hotter plug better at idle?

Re: So I'm going to try Bosch Side Fire F5DPOR Plugs

just turn your idle rpm up a couple clicks w/ lemmi and also bring idle torque up. that "fixed" my misfires.

i didn't have any with A/C on so it's definitely load dependant.. load was ~19% at idle no A/C and ~23% with the A/C on (rough estimates i don't remember exactly).

so.. i bumped RPM like 30 and brought my idle torque additive up until my load was 22/23 at idle with no a/c on and no more misfires.

sure it's a bandaid solution, but it works. i think some of our cars just misfire at idle. 42# green tops are known to, especially cold start, the green giants are supposed to be better but i've still heard many cases. The 60#'s as more and more run those are showing idle misfires. it's just the nature of the beast i think, at this point..so bump up your load.

btw i've run stock PFR6Q, copper BKR7E and now have the F6DTC (tri-electrode copper). They all had the same idle characteristics w/ regard to misfire.

Like others said, give it a try and see.

FYI: You may still be having misfires outside of idle, it is just the detection is disabled when you rev the engine. In fact, that's how some tuners "fix" the idle misfire issue by re-setting the stock misfire recognition to a different thrushhold.

its funny because i have these plugs and green giants, and i only get misfires at partial boost under acceleration. im thinking my plugs are fouled and i am gona replace them. however they have only been in for like 8k miles. if i pull them im going and they are still good, them i am clueless as to whats the issue. some say it could be since my maf housing doesn't have a flow straightener.

For all you guys getting "occasional" misfires. Why don't you try the F6DTC first before trying out the more expensive F5DPOR? I have been running these in my car and I don't get any misfires. They are copper plugs so they don't last as long as the platinum or iridium plugs but they are cheap enough to get 2 sets for the price of a set of the platinum.

before you start throwing all sorts of new fangled plugs at problems little things like proper MAF position, laminar flow, etc, need to be looked at first.

well son of a bitch, so far so good. my idle used to hunt from 760-800 all the time, started it up exhaust note is dead constant and watching idle in VAG stayed right on 800.... drove around, car is 110% smoother ! oh well, just happy that the car is running better and doesnt misfire at idle anymore.

Laminar Flow really doesn't exist in real world engineering applications... for example the air going into a MAF housing
