    Question Steering Angle Sensor

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my ABS and ESP lights recently started coming on after a bit of driving and stay on solid. I read the codes with my vag and got 2 codes whichi think are unrelated but im not sure.

    Codes are as follows:

16826 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Small Leak
    P0442 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

    And

    00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85)
    27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

Is it possible to get the Steering angle sensor code for a horrific alignment? Is the steering angle sensor tied into the steering wheel or the wheels?

i think they are un releated, did you try and recalibrate the steering sensor? there is a guide on the rosstech page.

Sensor might of gone bad, check in vag com if it reads the steering angle properly. IF it doesn't then the sensor is bad you need a new one of need to have that one fixed. Also i fixed a few of them to work properly ;)

I have the same problem when i am driving on the freeway. During normal street driving the lights never go on. Were is the sensor located at??

    Re: Steering Angle Sensor

Im pretty sure its the sensor itself. I havnt gotten around to replacing it yet. If you think about driving on the freeway its long distances in a straight line where it will pick up the fact that the sensor gets a long time to pickup the fact that the steering angle is off/sensor bad. Normal driving gets many more turns and may not give it enough time to recognize this.

    Re: Steering Angle Sensor

Steering Angle sensor is part of the clock spring assembly. Remove the air bag, steering wheel, and steering column covers and it's the box looking thing with the wires hanging out of it.
May be prudent to try a calibration first if the actual wheel alignment is decent. If the wheels and subframe are not aligned properly, then obviously that needs to get addressed as well.

Rosstech site has a pretty good procedure for the angle sensor calibration for you to follow after replacement.

As for the EVAP faults. Bet ya 20 bucks the purge valve is failing. To this day 99 out of 100 small and intermittant leak faults I've seen have been cured with new purge valves. Actually most all EVAP faults are due to faulty purge valves. Over time, the mechanical portion of the valve goes bad causing various faults.
