    Coils for Avants (info requested)

Hey all, planning to buy coilovers this week so I can have them on by Waterfest!!!

I am looking for what people feel are the best (I know if you own some you might be bias... please just be honest and factual)

I am right now tossing between Vogtlands and Stasis SS. IF you have any information on either of these please indulge me.

If you know a company and model that you feel is better in the general price range, up to $1200, please speak up.

    Thanks in advance

    Z

P.S. has anyone experienced this SAG issue with Stasis on Avants?

You can probably find a decent deal AT waterfest if you wait... Provided that those companies are vendors at the event.

Re: Coils for Avants (info requested)

I'm looking for a set of coils too. From the research I've gathered,

Stasis SS is just a pre-adjusted (by Stasis) version of the Koni coilover. The consensus seems to be that they are slightly softer dampened and have a squishier ride compared to the Vogtlands which ride firmer.

I've ridden in a B5 with Vogtlands and it feels great. Very controlled, firm, not uncomfortable whatsoever. But then again my opinion could be a little biased as I came from a 240sx with 10k linear rate coilovers with aggressive track/drift damper setting...

Re: Coils for Avants (info requested)

H&R's are really good imo. Some people say they are a bit more aggressive, but I like them! Plus height adjustability is all I would use, and only once or twice a year.

I've also driven in a car with the Bilstein PSS9s, excellent ride quality, and even more adjustability.

These are my only expereinces with B7 suspension though, so not sure about Stasis or Vogs.

Re: Coils for Avants (info requested)

well since this is my first audi i dont have too much experience with audi susp. but i have owned fk coils and h&r ultralows on a few vws i have owned. the fk's arent a very comfortable ride at all (though in a mk1 i doubt you will get a comfortable ride at all hahah) the h&r's i had in my mk3 were good but ended up being too soft almost cause when i would hit a few dips in the road the car would scrape and it wasnt THAT low to warrant it.

which brings me to the present. on my avant i just put on kw v3 coils and all i have to say is these are by far the best a most comfortable coil i have ever used. i would highly suggest them to anyone. i know they are out of your price range now but i would just save and get something you are going to be happy with rather than just getting some coils and slapping them on just to be low at waterfest.

    again just my $0.02

I have the Eibach Pro Streets on my B6 Avant. They are Eibach springs with KW dampers. I like the ride better than the FKs on my Getta. I got em from Tire Rack for around 1k. 10k miles on em so far without a complaint.

Re: Coils for Avants (info requested)

    Thanks guys.

As for going Ohlin internal reservour or kw v3's, I just dont think I need 2000 of coil on my car I most likely wont track. I do have the cash just dont see spending that much.

Im leaning towards Vogtlands... Like the idea of a stiff ride...

I will now start research on pricing.

If we can keep compiling more information about this topic for avants then maybe we can have a sticky?

Re: Coils for Avants (info requested)

If you aren't going to track the car, two very popular (and much less expensive) combos are:

    Bilstein dampers with H&R springs

Koni FSD dampers with Eibach Pro-kit springs

Unless you are planning on completely slamming the car, it's likely that you will set a ride height on coilovers that is identical to what these set-ups offer, with similar performance on the street.

Yeah, I am more comfortable with ride high adjustment and I plan on some very spirited and possibly autocross (for fun) use.

I figured I'd leave that to the 80's camaro forum. Could also just strap the spring tight to lower it, nice and safe I swear...HAHA
