I would take the R8 anyday, here in Florida you see Vette's all day long. I work with somebody that has a Z06 and it does nothing for me. I have yet to see an R8 though.

Its funny that some think they wouldn't give the Z06 a second look, but it is completly different than just a base model. I work at a Chevrolet dealer and ever one i take out, i get more looks out of than a base model. Yes the R8 looks like an extreme exotic but the raw american v-8 power out of the Z06 is just outragous. Wait untill the ZR-1 comes out. . . that'll be the car of the century possibly. But we'll see.

ahahahahaha yeah i forgot about the roof blow off recall on those. but what i was meaning by raw was just the fact its a LS7 500 pony motor. Not trying to shit on Audi since i own one myself. I wouldn't drive any GM car except for a Vette these days.

But now that i recall, i just did a roof recall on a Z06 about 2 months ago. . . heres 2 quick pics. . .

yeah the z06 is nice, but just can see myself driving one. I sat in one at a car show and felt as if i was in a cavalier. lol They are fast as balls though.

that particular car i had though, the owner was driving down the highway and flew off and hit a truck behind it. He brought the shell with him and was all scratched and bent up. The car was a 05' with 225 miles on it. It's never driven. But the drive after i completed installing the new roof was well worth the busted knuckled and cuts.

of course I have, and their prices are astronomical compared to their "better badged" competition, and aside from interior, you aren't guaranteed a better driving experience, or sportier drive.
but whatever, i'd take an R8 in a heartbeat.
i want audi to be the best, but they seem to be content with being just above average, or setting the bar where it will soon and easily be reset by competition.

It's not just Audi who is not price competitve with power. Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, they are all astronomically priced compared to Chevy. That has been one of the main selling points for the corvette for years!

There is a big power difference between the 2 so the video ended how I expected. I would still take the R8 for it's all round package and awesome styling over a Z06 anyday.

the cars are for two diffrent people. the R8 is for that millionare who just wants a nice looking exotic and the Z06 is for the average man how is going through a mid life crisis but does not have the money to buy a real head turner. i have been in a lot of Z06 vetts and dont like them. i will stay with the germans for cars.

also with the R8 you are paying for the enginering involved behind the car not just power becuase it is easy to take a giant motor and just make 500hp(z06).

a few fun facts every year audi spends over 2 billion dollars in research and develpment where as GM is paying all there employess retirment funds.

another fun fact GM has more employees getting paid on their retinment plans than all german and jap car companys put togeather.

so i stick with the car which is more advanced and pushing the envolope for the car industry(R8) not the one with just a big motor(z06)

You put a big enough motor in a Subzero it will go like hell,but it will still ride like a fridge.The Z06 is a big piece of crap.My Allroad has a better fit and finish.Watch a Vette and an R8 on the track.The vette sounds like a misfiring lawnmower.The windnoise makes it sound like a brick.Most people who choose a Vette over anR8 never have driven either one but they experts.They look good on paper for the money.But in the real world they ride like crap.They're sterring wheel is out of a Malibu.You give both cars the same beating for 100k and the vette will be scrap.It takes GM 2 more liters than Audi to make the same hp

could not agree with you more a vett is not a performance car becuase the acuatal mening behind perfromance means an objects ability to control its self in high speed sitiuations. it does not say anything about power whitch is all the Z06 is good for becuase u may as well take a top fuel dragster to pocono raceway or any other track with elevation changes and turns. the Z06 should not even be compared to the R8 becuase the R8 is a performance exotic and the Z06 is a fast Brick.

102487thedude i agree i would take a r8. but you sound a bit ridiculous saying a z06 isn't a performance car? it does lap the nurburgring track faster than a r8, and its pretty much half the price. (remember im still on the r8s side). interior isn't too bad and the 08s don't look half that bad after they re-did the lines of the car. and have you really been in one because it doesn't sound like it. yes the r8 will turn more heads obviously, z06s have been around for days. shit. well just wanted to tell you, you sound a bit ridiculous and weren't looking at all the facts.

Personally I think anything with the Bow-Tie logo on it is a joke. Over priced joke at that. As mentioned, GM spends most of their money on retirement funds, so it's no wonder they're stuck having to squeeze 500 HP out of a Push-Rod Motor. I think it's still overpriced along with all their other junk. I mean C'Mon, it's an engine designed back in the fifties with a few updated revisions here and there. Sure they deserve some credit for squeezing 500 HP out of a Push-Rod Motor and then squeezing it into an aluminium and fiberglass or carbon fiber box, but that's all they did.

Besides that, it's not even a comparison. The R8 is WAAAAAAYYY more fuel efficient and it's still an all wheel drive car with far superior crash ratings and overall safety. Let's not even talk about handling.

The Vette is nothing more than an over priced penis extension/crutch which can thrust forward reasonably well,....considering. Just like the washed up old geeser who buys it hoping to convince his daughter's 30-something daddy syndrome friends that he could still take 'em for a ride after taking a cialis, should they fancy the idea during a drunken stooper. Either that, or they buy it to piss off the ex wife.

The R8 shows distinguished tastse and character with appreciation of superior engineering.

to begin with that race is not representative of reality. i've raced Z06s before. from a roll at 60 mph they were unable to walk me until 100 mph +. and even then it was a small walk. if at that point there were a curve i'd begin to catch up again. the Z06 is faster in a straight, but it won't embarass the R8. add some curves and the vette driver will have his hands full. unless he's very good the Z06 is a difficult car to drive fast in any kind of a curvy road. no comparison to an R8 in ease of driving for average driver.

in my encounters, the seemingly average Z06 drivers were not able to keep up with me around long sweeping curves at speeds over 90. just the god honest truth.

btw- i happen to be proud of the fact that the ZR1 is faster than the GTR around the ring.
