Remove tranny, change clutch, reinstall tranny..

    kidding...

**I have only removed the tranny when i removed my motor. I've never done it with the motor in the car.** However, here is how i would go about removing the tranny with motor still in:

Remove shifter assembly from inside the cabin
    Remove half shafts from tranny
Remove rear output shaft from tranny
    Remove tranny mounts
    Remove bell-housing bolts
Remove clutch slave cylinder (on top drivers side of tranny, huge PITA)

Pull tranny out toward rear of car, make sure to support the tranny till the "pin" comes out of the flywheel.

Once the tranny is off, changing the clutch is pretty self-explanatory. Pressure plate is held on with 6mm allen screws around its perimeter. If you're going to remove the flywheel, you will need a triple square socket (i can't remember what size exactly).

    Re: clutch write-up please...

S4 tranny is not much different than a 2.8 or 1.8 tranny besides being a lil heavier, a couple bolts in a diff location and a diff exhaust setup I worked on all 3 cars so i speak frome experiance. If you have a 2.8 or 1.8 A4 manual that covers the tranny it will help but the engine on the other hand is a diff story.
