power steering fluid leaking, what kind of fluid can i use?

i hate my car and i cant wait to get rid of it. ill sell it for real cheap to anyone that wants it.

on that note, one of the many stupid little problems im having is leaking power steering. it started to make a whine noise and then on my way to work this morning a real serious noise started to happen along with gnarly wheel shake, so i pulled over and parked it. now im at work wondering what kind of fluid i need to buy in order to get it back driving right.

i told my roommate to bring me some fluid from the VW dealership but can i use just generic stuff instead?

kbb good condition is 4,800, fair condition is 4,230. ide sell it with all the mods for 3,500.

but anyone know whats up with the power steering fluid? maybe i should just make a thread in the for sale section instead!!

its like $12 a pint at the dealer...pissed me off when i had to get some the other week. our cars take mineral PS fluid only. dont put any cheap stuff in or it will destory your seals

what pinky said.. That is what i use. ALSO theres a good chance it is just the clamps on the lines coming off the reservoir. They tend to leak FYI.

i got a bottle of stuff by febi from ecs, i actually topped it off today, i'm leaking very slowly, im not sure where from.
