    Re: Turbo Blanket

If it's an insulator and does not allow heat to escape, DO NOT DO IT. This will severely shorten your turbos life by inducing stress cracks from excessive heat and warping that a fine-tolerance part such as a turbo cannot handle.

A turbo blanket sounds a lot like "polish your intake".

    Re: Turbo Blanket

Im worried it causes to much heat. The part of the intake that comes from the grill get's to hot, and that air is going right back into the turbo.

    Re: Turbo Blanket

Its what turbos use to comfort themselves on those lonely nights, dreaming of the next le mans win and hoping its cousins are taken as well care of as it is. After a few thousand miles, you can expect your lil bundle of joy to give up this blanket habit and replace it with incessant whining and intolerable screaming, followed by complaints at every turn.

    Re: Turbo Blanket

I have a turbo blanket and never used it as I ceramic coated the turbine housing instead which does the same job.

If you want it let me know.

And it does work and don't let people spook you. People have been using them on turbos on other cars (Supras, EVO's, etc) without any issues.

It keeps the heat where it belongs: in the exhaust stream and out of the engine compartment.

    Re: Turbo Blanket

A turbo blanket will help with under hood temps which are good to keep down, and for all you people hating on these things like "it will cause cracks" what are you talking about, you know a turbo is designed to operate under extreme heat right? all a turbo blanket (and ceramic coating) is going to do is help you engine. lower intake temps = a better more efficient running engine.

Helps your exhaust gases to flow better, this would go nice with heat wrapped downpipes as well. The longer the exhaust gases stay hot through the piping the better.

You're right, I read up some more and a turbo blanket is fine as it is not a snug fit. However, wrap is VERY bad, as it does not allow metal parts to expand with heat, causing any weak points in the metal to give.

Reasons why you don't use heat wrap.

(Excuse me for always referring to Scionlife, I spent two years and 1500 posts there, so it's a pretty easy reference for me).

    Re: Turbo Blanket

Im defanitly going to invest into either the ceramic coating or most likely the turbo blanket it seem's flawless. I intend on driving the car for awhile so I would like to keep it as happy as possible lol.
