    Stock Audi tint

Does anyone know what the stock window film Audi uses? I'm looking to put tint on my car when I move down to NC in a month or so. Their law is 35% net so I need to take into account the film Audi has.

    Re: Stock Audi tint

it is basically none, many films "35%" is actually around 37 or 38 to account for this

I would not worry if i was just getting 35 no cop is going to give you a ticket with 35 or 30 no matter what the stock tint is

I would like to know this also.. I love the look of a stock tint. Is that a metallic based tint most manufacturers use?

    Re: Stock Audi tint

The factory tint in most windows has about a 30% rejection. So if it was a tint, it'd be about a 70% film. So putting a 35% tint over top of the factory windows will actually read lower (lower the number the darker the film).

Correct. When most (more than likely all) cars come from the factory with tint, it is 70% (visibility). The reason being is that is the legal tint limit in most states, including mine.

    Re: Stock Audi tint

Remember you cant just add 70% to the 35% tint you are getting and end up with say 20% tint on a meter. If you get around 35 or 30 % tint you are safe when it comes to the cops they wont even be able to tell you have any tint at all 35% is so light

    Re: Stock Audi tint

I go to school in NC and added 35% to mine and have never had any issues. Window tint is very popular in NC because of the nice weather. If I could redo it I would have actually gone darker so 35% + the minimal standard audi tint is perfectly fine

35 on top of the stock audi tint is still not dark in direct sunlight. 20 looks good

    Re: Stock Audi tint

I want to say that I read on here somewhere that it was like 95% or something like that. 70% seems too dark to be stock. 70% you should still be able to see it a little even though it isn’t dark. If you look at a stock Audi, you can’t see any tint what so ever which is why I am thinking that 70% is too dark.

Yeah you can’t just add them. If stock was 70% and you added 35% to that you would have about 25% tint.

I had 15% on my car and I loved it but the law in RI is 70% so I got pulled over and had to take it off.

I would like to go for 20% when I go to NC. The reason I was worried is because part of the inspection is to test the tint and I heard those stations were strict but my car is leased so I will most likely not get it inspected before it is up. As long as cops don’t bust your balls.

its 70% from the factory and i doubt you will have any problems putting 35% on, it's so light looking

You might be confusing everyone with your post. I think your talking the opposite that everyone else is.

A 70% tint, means it has 70% VLT (visible light transmission) and a 30% rejection). Putting 35% on a factory window will probably put the car in the 30-33% VLT range. Technically if they were to get pulled over, it would be illegal, but I dont know too many people who can tell the difference in a few percentage stats.

Please look at my post above, I clearly explained how I go to school in NC and 35% in fine considering tint in very common. I would have gone to 15 or 20% if I had to think it over again. I don't think you will have any problems with the 20% you are looking to get.

In order to be sold in every state the light transmission on the front side windows has to be 70% or more, so Audi uses this level, sides and back. I just put a 3M ceramic 50 film on my Avant that gives me 0.7 x 0.5 = 0.35 or a 35% light transmission anything darker and you'll be illegal in a number of states.
