Under Hood Question -

anyone do anything cool under their hood... like literally the underside of the hood?

My padding (I'm guessing heat resistant to save the hood paint) is falling off at certain spots since the clips are broken

anyone ever replace this or do something cool in its place?

I have seen a few cars with a mirror like material under the hood and it look cool because when the hood is up it bounces your line of sight down onto the engine.

I had the same problem with my hood insulator as well. So I just threw it out.

Oh, and I remember reading somewhere that AUDI actually calls that padding a "Engine sound dampner" (or something along the lines of sound deadener.) I have had it off for several months now and no problems at all with the paint on the hood....it does get quite hot though....quite alot actually

yeah i figured it was sound deadening as well.... the mirror thing may be cool.... i'll look into that

I would be so reluctant to remove that insulation pad...

I had a 5.0 Mustang years ago w/ a set of headers and no underhood insulation. The sections of the hood directly over the headers slowly discolored/faded due to the excess heat. I can't imagine our turbos would be any cooler than those headers...I think the factory knew what they were doing w/ the insulation there. Just my $.02...

You'll probably be ok. I've had mine out for a year with a very warm supercharger just underneath. no discoloration yet and actually cools the engine bay better. turbo might be warmer, but I believe is farther away from the hood.

Edit: yeah you BT guys might need to keep a closer eye on it depending on turbo placement/size

i dont think I would run without it for long... i think it would be a more temporary/show thing

My A4 didn't have the padding under the hood.

I took mine out, it's just a sound deadener. Jettas came with the same thing. I like hearing the sound of my engine xD.
