    VAG Com Cable

Looking to get a vag cable for the car and was wondering if these from Ebay will do the trick.

From my understanding, I want a USB, CAN cable. I don't understand what HEX means as Ross Tech says HEX-CAN cable in either USB or Serial port connection.

Can anyone shed any light on the subject? Chronic T, just got his of of Ebay but I forgot what he said that he got. Anyways, here is a link for one of the Ebay listings.

if you want to do data logging and things of that nature, the ebay cable will not let you do it. Most ebay cables (from what I have read on the forums) are not can-bus, which is needed for other features on the car (data logging, etc)

if you just want to do the window mod, door chime, they ebay will work for you =D

This is one of those thing that you should spend more money on.
I'm sure these work OK but like mentioned above for more advanced features and data logging you won't be able to do with e-bay stuff. If you go with Ross-Tech make sure you buy one with can bus that works with MKV platform.

Buy the real deal, if you buy cheap alternatives, why would they continue making the software? They make their money on the cables, since the software seems to be free anywhere.

    Re: VAG Com Cable

We plan to get a Dell lap-top soon. Will this cable be sufficient enough to do pretty much 'everything' (analyze Check Engine Light, door/window mod...changing codes (?)..etc.)?

    Thank you.

p.s. sorry for the high-jack, Ed!

    Re: VAG Com Cable

Does anyone know if there is a way to use VAG COM to remap the Bluetooth button on the NA steering wheel to become the Sport button?

    Re: VAG Com Cable

Ed, if for your RS4, you have to have the CAN connection, which some of the cheaper cables lack, or if they list, sometimes I've heard they don't work, hit or miss. Also, most of the ebay cables can only support through software verison 409 (2 major versions back). So as mentioned, if you want to just do some 'tweaks' then it might be worth it (or find someone local to VAG you).

John, if you have a B6 S4 (which I think I read elsewhere?) then you don't need the HEX interface, just the KEY interface which should save you $100.
[EDIT] just read you have a B7, which does require the HEX/CAN interface.
