    Boost leak test drip?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I did the boost leak test from A4mods.com for shits and giggles yesterday. First of all, my boost gauge barily went past 5psi and after that I started to hear a dripping noise in the engine. It doesn't hold the pressure for a very long time either. Any ideas?

The dripping noise is the oil bubbling. Its normal for us, just make sure you have the pcv system blocked off at the intake. What to listen for is a hissing noise. Also, boost leaks are way less noticable in higher gears since there is more load on the motor to help create boost.

I think the only way to make it hold the pressure is to set the engine so that all the intake valves are closed, other wise the air is just going thru the valves and out the exhaust or past the rings into the crank case.

    Re: Boost leak test drip?

Yea I figured some air would leak through the valves but I thought my boost gauge would more or less mimic the gauge on my compressor. I guess I didn't really need to do the test, I was just looking for something to do.
