so i was digging around, reading and all that good crap. Anyways, i have a few buddies with audi/vw's but here is a pic of my stock air box area, I was planning on doing the 'true heatshield' and adding a cone filter.

but i'm curious, where is my MAF at?

the MAF connector is that "Witches Hat" plug on top of the airbox.

    To remove:

Separate the airbox in two first by opening those clips...then you can unplug the maf.

Open up your airbox and actually take a look inside. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you see. The MAF you see in there will work out for you. And if you're attaching a cone filter, you are going to have to remove your airbox anyway.

I knew the last part, just didnt actually tear into the box to see much. I am a tech at a hot rod shop, but this car kinda scares me still. Guess I just gotta actually rip into it and stop pussy footing it.

When you take it apart youll figure it out. I used to be kind of afraid of the car too, but the more i work on it the more i relize its not realy all that bad and is actualy easyer than some of the cars i worked on before. I used this http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2507093 and then made my own custom heat shield. This is how it turned out.

looks good. and you're not too far from me at all.

i'll probably order the 'true heatshield' thing for 80 bucks and tig some tubing to pull my filter around and right behind the headlight.

did you leave the lower portion of the stock box? i'm asking cause you still have the retangle tube from the grill opening going to it.

Thanks. Yes i left the lower portion of the box back in so that i could still use the stock tubing that feeds cool air in from the front
