If you saw it move at high speeds you would realize they are a nessesity with such a light hood, I do agree though and hopefully I can replace them with some of the aero catch style since they weren't available to the original owner...

all carbon fiber hoods flex, i have had about a few carbon fiber hoods with no hood pin and never had any of them fly open. hell my sti has an aluminum hood from the factory. hood pins are ricer and completely kill the smooth lines of the hood. take them off, fill the holes and repaint the hood.

    Re: Boser content...

Ask the guys at AWE if hood pins are ricer...

Btw, latch failure isn't the only reason for hood pins. CF hoods are made from layers, and the latch is only attached to the bottom layers. Even if the latch doesn't fail, CF
layers can still separate. Hood pins hold all layers down.

    Re: Boser content...

Very nice pawnage and hence why hood pins are functional and will be staying on the hood...

    Re: Boser content...

awesome, they still are ugly as shit. wow lets go find pictures of cars that have had their hoods fly open to justify drilling into a 800 dollar hood to install 10 dollar shitty hood pins. any carbon fiber hood i have bought had the latch bolted on with a backing plate.

omg you so pwned me omg

    Re: Boser content...

I'm curious how the backing plate would be screwed into the hood any differently than the latch being bolted directly to the hood.. and were just messing around, you don't like them, I don't like them but they give me a little added sense of safety so that is what matters..

    Re: Boser content...

the bolts are screwed into the plate instead of drilled into the fiberglass. the bolts could rip through the fiberglass but with a backplate it would have to rip a huge section of the fiberglass to come out

the aerocatch pins are nice tho

    Re: Boser content...

I sort of see.. IIRC there are 4 screw on the latch so basically the same as putting a backing plate on and bolting to that.. unless of course you used more screws to hold the backing plate... and yes the aeros are much nicer and will probably be my next purchase..

Like I said, a failed or separated latch isn't the only danger. Only hood pins hold ALL layers of the CF hood.

car looks great with the CF hood!

I'm waiting for mine to arrived with the rear CF spoiler. I wasn't planning on getting some hood pins but now I'm thinking it twice!!
