    2002 A8 front brakes on my B6?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Will the front brake calipers from a 1999-2003 A8 mount to my front struts if I use the A8 rotors? Or would I need to have custom caliper brackets made? This is for something a little special, and I would not really be using stock A8 brakes, but I need the info so I can find out if these brakes I have a line on will fit. Thanks in advance!

Just do the 3.0 upgrade it's the same size rotor as the a8 (312mm). You can buy the kit on ecs with the carriers. It's what I did and I noticed a little better braking and less pedal fade. With a ceramic pad you will be set!

I already have B7 S4 fronts and B7 A4 rears, plus Carbotech Bobcat pads. I don't need the A8 stock stuff, but I might have a hookup on some aftermarket brakes for an A8, and I need to know if they will bolt on, or if I will need custom brackets.

Compared to just upgrading the stock setup with ss braided lines and better pads, this is an insignificant upgrade.
Btw, the caliper brackets mount to the wheel bearing housing, not the "front struts".

Yeah, I was pretty tired and a bit buzzed yesterday, so I put strut when I couldn't think of the correct term. And as I said, I am looking at an aftermarket big brake setup for a 1999-2003 A8 that I have access to through a friend. He is in Germany though, and I'd rather not buy it and have it shipped here just to find out that it doesn't fit. However, I think I'll just roll with it. Worst case scenario I have to get custom brackets made up.

Edit: Oh, and this would definitely be a show thing, so I know it would not be good for maintaining the correct bias and will increase the unsprung weight massively. But I don't track my car, and I'm not worried about it.

I wouldn't worry about the bias, the caliper/piston/pad is the same, and the rotor size increase is small, so the advantages of bigger rotors listed on that DIY page above, are rather insignificant. Wouldn't you rather have the B5S4 setup for looks?

Ok, the brakes are Brembos for an A8, with 365mm discs. And I might be able to get them cheap. If they were cheap enough and fit, or I could get an adapter to make them fit, they would be great for a show car. Not stock A8 brakes.

LOL, you should have mentioned that before. Stock last gen A8 used small 312mm rotors and crappy single piston, sliding calipers. Do you have any pics of these Brembos?

B7 A4 rears should be fine in terms of e-brake. I just installed some B6 S4 rears and only had to give an extra 3/4 inch or so of room for the e-brake cable. You just un-clip the cable from the lower control arm, pull in out slightly and then screw the bracket back in.

I will see if I can get some pics, but my buddy is in Germany, and we are on opposite schedules, so it's hard to stay in touch.

As for the rear brakes, it's exactly what Ill 3.0 said, you just unclip a couple points and the work fine. Although mine are slightly smaller than his, being only 288mm I believe. I'd like to get some S4 rears, but they never seem to come up.

Also, if this conversion works, I'll be selling my S4 fronts, which would drop the price of this setup even further. I'll let you all know what's up if and when I get them.
