    Spoiler Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i got my new trunk spoiler today and it is only mounted with the double stick tape it comes with. this doesnt seen like it would stand up to the wear and tear of daily driving, car washes, and my girlfriend using it as a leaver to really slam the trunk.

Does anyone else have any experience with this stuff, or know of another way to install one, i would like to stay away from drilling in my trunk, but that seems that strongest method. thanks

    Re: Spoiler Question

I got an ebay spoiler last summer and it had 3m tape on it so I used it. No problems yet hasn't moved or lifted at all.

    Re: Spoiler Question

I have the same one, it's on good, as long as the surface is clean. Hell even the OEM one for my Volvo has the same 3m stuff and it hasn't budged.

    Re: Spoiler Question

i've got some betalink K-1 still in the box. mine is about 2 years old now at least. the ends are peeling up just oh so slightly. It to me seriously 20 retries to get it on and the friggen tape still stuck. the ends meaning about less than 5mm at the ends at lifting. If i wanted to. i'd go bust out some betalink k-1 and shoot it in the ends but quite honestly the dings and such you don't really notice it unless your nitpicking especially with how forigiving denim blue is.

    so:
    1. betalink K-1 (get at bmw dealer open right now)
    2. use the tape and be amazed that after 19 screwups or being anal about fitment that the 20th pull up and stick actually lasts years.

i've got the betalink in atlanta if someone ever wanted it. like $10 if i can find it i paid like $13+tax but i don't plan to glue any parts on my car.

I do recommend you have a soft-tension clamp for the end to keep one side from moving. those large painter ones will pinch the delsa soft rubber but won't kill it; just too much force. slightly bigger than a clothespin would help.

i can say that the cheap spoiler has gone well over my expectations but i do like the more modern b7 (and every other cars) built in lip better. less lip more curve. go look at a b7 or 3 series and you'll know what i mean.

If i had the skills i'd go for the expensive oettinger reps or the real deal s4. That requires mounting (holes?) and paint matching and $67 versus $300-$600 is alot of money for a non-go-fast mod. hell thats almost as much as a k04 (bare).

    Re: Spoiler Question

I got the ebay lip spoiler and only used the 3M tape to put it on. When I wanted to get it off it was virtually impossible. It would not budge at all.

    Re: Spoiler Question

I'm sorry but what a joke with that write up... that tape sticks VERY well, and I'm hesitant to think that i would even be able to pull the spoiler off without a knife or something to cut away the tape..

    Re: Spoiler Question

The tape might indeed work well for some but I wanted a nicer looking / more permanent solution. The gap that the tape leaves would have bugged me to no end. Just personal preference.

But I think you missed the point of the write up... more how a seemingly simple project can easy spiral out of control resulting in some of the funny. Cheers.

mine was originally on with double sided tape...and the ends started lifting. it had to be redone with glue. haven't had any problems since.

    Re: Spoiler Question

Nice! So how close is that to a stock one? It looks more pronounced (not that that's a bad thing)

Oh, and anyone here work at a dealership? My dealer said they'd sell me a factory one at their cost, but that was $480-something. Sounded like a load of BS to me... hoped someone could prove me right/wrong.
