    clutch pressure plate torques

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm in the middle of putting my engine/trans back together and getting it in my car today.

Flywheel is bolted on. For my 22.5mm OEM Bolts my torque was 60Nm + 90deg

What are the pressure plate bolt torque values?
Shall I put some blue loctite on the threads? Looks like the ones that came out did not have any loctite.

FYI: Southbend OFE SS clutch with OEM DM Flywheel. Clutch has been installed before so I'm just reinstalling everything. New flywheel bolts and re-using PP bolts.

    Thanks!

    Re: clutch pressure plate torques

Jake told me the spec for the PP bolts is 22Nm. He suggested (and I did) 30Nm with loctite on the PP bolts. That is what I did and it felt pretty friggn' tight. I don't see 60Nm on the PP bolts.

Trans is now on and everything looks good.

Engine/Trans is going into the Avant shortly....

    Re: clutch pressure plate torques

i would agree with that, i did the 60nm plus a 1/4 turn is all i could get , i started to strip one and said the hell with it, thats tight enough... i have the snappy torque wrench so it clicks when its at 60nm

    Re: clutch pressure plate torques

The Craftsman one I'm using clicks too. I used a 1/2" breaker bar to get the 90deg turn on the flywheel bolts.

    Re: clutch pressure plate torques

I also did EXACTLY what papachristou did:

60Nm + 180* for the Flywheel (New OEM bolts - supposedly have loctite already on them)

60Nm + 90* for the Pressure plate bolts (I used ACE hardware bolts grade 10.9 versus the OEM bolts that are grade 8.8...plus they had a 13mm head versus the CRAPPY OEM hex head bolts....I did NOT use loctite)

    Re: clutch pressure plate torques

oh i hated those OEM pressure plate bolts, so soft... i dread if i ever have to take them out... ill probably be dremeling a cut in them to use a large flathead or something... i should have done what you did... oh well, hindsight is 20/20

    Re: clutch pressure plate torques

60Nm for the pressure plate is too much! They are a 6mm bolt which can't take too much load. All the torque on the pressure plate is taken out on the dowels.

I had no problems with the OEM flywheel bolts (12point). No stripping when removing and no issues when installing. It helps to have the right tools.

    Re: clutch pressure plate torques

oh yeah definitely, the OEM flywheel bolts (spline drive/triple squares) are a great design and allow you to put plenty of torque down.. i was talking about the pressure plate bolts.. shitty design... i was just following the bentley torque specs for them......
(i can assure you, i have all the right tools!)

60nm+90 is too much for those soft allen head pressure plate bolts

+1 ... I too was referring to the PP bolts. I had ZERO problem installing the flywheel bolts.

I have all the right tools and the some! When I first installed the PP bolts I used brand new OEM bolts and all they did was strip the damn head and then I had to dremel a big notch in it and it took like 30 minutes to get it out with a big flathead! But with those ACE hardware bolts everything went super smooth

    Re: clutch pressure plate torques

im sure thats what ill be doing if i ever do another clutch job... if i do, im going to go to a lightweight flywheel.. .my car isnt a DD anymore so i can mod all i wont now

i really think if i had the new flywheel there (and all the stupid new bolts), i could do the whole job in 8-12 hours now..
