    Speeding ticket! Bull.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got a speeding ticket today. I was on the freeway going about 58-60mph no more than that. There was traffic and everybody was going the same speed. It wasn't possible to go any faster even if I had wanted to. Speed limit was 50mph. Been doing this everyday, same speed for the past 5 years. I have never got a speeding ticket in my life. I have passed several cops lasering people during that time.
Anyway there were 2 motorcycle cops ahead putting laser guns on cars passing them. One pulled out and pulled me over. I asked what I was getting pulled over for because I was puzzled. He said he got me going 68mph. I asked how did he figure that? He showed me the laser gun reading. I asked if the gun is correct? He started getting defensive. I said I might have been doing 60 at most but no way 68. I asked how is it possible to tag me if everybody was going the same speed. I was pacing the car in front of me for the past 3 miles so wouldn't that car get tagged before me I asked. He had no response. I told him with all the traffic it was impossible to go any faster than 60mph. I also told him there was a car coming up behind me somewhat fast earlier, was it possible that he tagged him and pulled me over by mistake. He said there is no mistake. (ya right). I have noticed a lot of cops tagging people in the past month. I have never seen this many cops tagging people like this. The city must be hurting for revenue or something.
I know for a fact I was not going 68 or anywhere near that. I intend to fight this ticket. I am going to work the system to the fullest. This is BULL****.
Has anybody heard of National Motorists Association (NMA)? Heard good things about them. Somebody told me they help you fight speeding tickets if you join the Association. Especially bull crap tickets. Any success stories in fighting speeding tickets? I heard cops can save the reading on the laser gun and show it to anybody they want. Is Audi speedometers off? 10mph plus? What about Insurance? How much does it increase if you have one speeding ticket? Just want to know if all else fails, what I'm in for. My time is important and it is easy to just pay the dam thing but I know I'm right and refuse to admit guilt. This is BULL****. Sorry for the long post. Appreciate all the feedback.

As far as the speedometer, I gps verified mine. Speedo said 62mph, gps says 61, so if anything your speedo reads a tad higher than your true speed, as it is illegal I believe for your speedo to read lower than your true speed.

If you contest the ticket, they say if you go in with the facts, keep calm, don't argue, then you actually have something like a 2/3rds chance of winning. Don't forget there's only a 1/3rd chance the cop who wrote you the ticket won't show up, and if he doesn't show, then you pretty much win.

As far as insurance, usually if it's your first ticket, or if you haven't had one in a while, then they won't jack your premiums. That's my experience though, I'm sure somebody here will chime in that they got fucked by their insurance company.

Don;t worry, the same thinghappened to me. I have lieved in my town for 3 years and have been taking the same route to work for 2 years. I have never been pulled over or even followed by a cop except for the one that wanted to ask me how my car drove because he was in the market for an Audi or a Volvo. Anyway, I got a speeding ticket yesterday morning for doing the same speed as everyone else that I do every single day.

This is my 4th speeding ticket, I have only been charged on one of the three priors because they wouldn;t drop 4 points to 0. I also plan on beating this one too, just go in and talk to the prosecutor and have him change it to an offense with no points. As long as you don't get points, your insurance doesn't hit you. I doubt they even ever know about it. Good luck, I got court on the 10th

Def fight the ticket. You always have a good chance of winning if you present the facts of what happened. Search the internet for some other cases. Plan your defense well and stay calm. If you are really serious about it, there are some good books about fighting speeding tickets. I have just about every book written on the subject.
I haven't got a speeding ticket that stuck in years!

Besides, even if you don't win, the cop will almost always offer to reduce the ticket for you.
BTW, my speedo is off by a few mph's speedo reads 60, GPS says 56-57.

Since I work for State Farm...I'll answer your insurance question.

If you get cour supervision/probation, then the ticket will not go on your record, and insurance companies won't see it. However, if it does go on your record, then there's a couple different ways it could be seen, but thats up to your insurance company.

If you try to get new insurance, they will see it. If you are within a certain time into your policy, some companies will see it and charge at renewal, and if your past a certain time, they don't use outside factors to determine the rate...however, if you get a major like the guy above (suspension), there's a 99% chance you're getting dropped. Unless it's one of those small companies, they may keep you because those are the customers that they get/rely on. But if you're with one of the big boys that target different markets (the more responsible type), then they'll probably drop you.

Anyway, if its your first ticket, it shouldn't go on your record. As the judge to have it dropped, tell him its your first ever. He'll probably drop it.
