Question Stasis Exhaust Issue and Question...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello everyone... OK, here is my situation:

I added a Stasis CB exhaust to my B7 S4. It does sound great under load and does not sound too loud when cruising on the freeway, but betwee 1500-2500 RPM's, is really drones and is very loud inside the cabin. I know is a relatively small range and is very low in the powerband but driving around town, it is there at every stop sign, every light, and evertime I hav to slow down for anything... It is starting to make me regret the purchase a little bit.

Is there anyting I can do to alleviate this? (Other than going back to stock.) Can I add resonators? Do all other exhaust sytems have the same characteristics? APR? AWE? Milltek?

    Thanks!

Re: Stasis Exhaust Issue and Question...

see, I was worried about this as well...I had my heart set on a STaSIS CB, but I guess I'll just wait. I think that's a problem I think with the 2.5" piping, although, I could be wrong. Supposedly, there is always drone at that RPM range. I notice it with the stock exhaust, but it's VERY minimal.

Oatzel has the STaSIS CB for his avant, but he says he doesn't get drone. Could be the tip. Is yous manual? Either that or Oatzel just isn't keeping the car in the 1800 rpm range.

Re: Stasis Exhaust Issue and Question...

It's a pretty common experience across most exhausts. My FI is louder between 1400-1800rpms.

It does seem to mellow once you've had the exhaust for a little while. My FI doesn't seem as noticeable now as it did when it was brand new.

I would go a month or so before making any changes, just to see how it "matures"

Re: Stasis Exhaust Issue and Question...

I agree that this is probably common on most cat-backs. My Milltek started life with resonators and when those were on there was just a little bit of drone -nothing that bothered me though. When I removed the resonators, the drone increased quite a bit and at first I thought "man this may be too much". However, it's just a matter of getting used to because now it's fine again. I don't think this has anything to do with the system - it doesn't change, you do. BTW, even with the little extra drone, I can't stop driving the car without having the windows down. It sounds so much better now.

Oh. Ok. As long as YOU say its perfect...

I guess it seems to be the 2.5" systems that do this... Is the APR like this? What about when they add DP's?

Aftermarket downpipes will be even louder.

Resonated cat-back is the quietest aftermarket option. Non-resonated cat-back is louder. Resonated w/ downpipes is louder still. Non-resonated with downpipes is loudest.

of course im kidding...but honestly, you're going to get slight drone at low rpms with just about any CB exhaust. Milltek resonated is the quietest, and maybe more of what you want.

I thought the APR exhaust was the quietest.

Re: Stasis Exhaust Issue and Question...

I have a labree fullback with a good amount of drone in the same rev range. I checked for the exhaust vibrating (it hit a heat shield in a spot or two) and moved my mounts to eliminate the contact between anything solid and the exhaust. That did help a bit, but it did not eliminate the drone which can hurt my ears at times. Good luck, but in my opinion my exhaust makes my car.

I do agree that the exhaust really does make the car... Love the exhaust sound, just annoyed by the drone... Oh well. You have to pay to play, right? lol

i think almost everybody who talks about exhaust is talking out of their ass. this is also a prime example WHY you LISTEN to and exhaust on a real car (not some online video) before you buy.

I think I said I have a bit of a drone in that range, unless I have the transmission in sport mode. certainly not enough to bother me though. i still owe you a ride, don't I?

Yes Dave, you do! We'll have to hook up sometime soon. Although, I don't think I'll be buying anything for my car anytime soon. I just upgraded the home theater...can't wait for the tv to be delivered!
