Well, I just got my car back from the dealer I purchased it from and I was able to get almost everything fixed (passenger''s seat motor, right folding mirror, etc). They were unable to fix/replace my main computer switch so that I can cycle through the different modes on the onboard computer (avg, mpg, etc). Apparently my switch is bad which I find hard to believe considering all the buttons on the wiper stalk are working except for the end button that cycles through the modes. Even the reset button is working as it should. So as it stands, I am stuck with the "miles to empty" mode. The dealer told me I had to take the car to an Audi dealer because they cannot access the steering whell column due to the anti-theft system. Does that make sense? If that''s the case, how much am I expected to pay in parts and labor? Finally, do you guys know of any possible DIY solutions? I read somewhere that there is a way to disable different modes so you don''t have to cycle through all of them and I''m wondering if the previous owner accidentaly disabled all of them but the current one.

Please help me as this is something that has really been bothering me.

    Thanks in advance...

no method im aware of to disable any modes, if you tap the reset button it cycles through trip computer 1,trip computer 2 and off thats all im aware off, tell the dealer you bought it from they need to fix it, if they dont feel they can do the work it dosent all of a sudden become your problem, they need to sublet the repair to a local audi dealership for service period, they are giving you a song and dance i feel about the repair but im not sure as i have not done one before, but its just a wiper stalk, cant be rocket science.

Thanks guys for the info. That thread you linked me to seems quite intense. I don't know if I have the guts/knowledge to do everything there. I guess if I'm stuck with one hour of labor it might be worth it to just let them do it. If they try to squeeze more than an hour of labor, than it might be something that I should look into.

BTW, will any of these stalks work with my 2003 A4 Cabriolet?

I was thinking of getting that first one but I don't know what they mean by "Saloon models only".

Yeah, the wholesale dealer I purchased from told me to take it to an Audi dealer because they said there is an anti-theft system that prevents them from working on the steering column. Is that valid? I've seen pictures of people working on the column themselves, so how could that be?

Ah, so it wasn't a Audi dealer...thanks for the clarification. I say take it to the Audi dealer and "get 'er done" then send the invoice to the dealer for reimbursement.

I don't think that's how they work. I'm scared of getting stuck with that bill.

I was able to get a quote for the wiper switch for $143.60. Do you think it'll be too risky for me to install it by myself?
