Could you do this and save money?

Ok so I was thinking.. A battery is really just sulfuric acid contained in a high grade plastic, with metal connecters... Right??? So say the battery were do die, all one would really have to do is unscrew the 6 screws on the top, drain the sulfuric acid, put some cleaner in them so the metal gets clean, rinse, and refill with new sulfuric acid. Lastly spray some armor-al around the outside of the battery, and viola.... you got yourself a new battery!

Is that right, or is it really once a battery dies its dead... No quick shortcut...?

    Thanks

Then you have issues of procuring sulfuric acid, handling it properly, and disposing of the old stuff. Any money saved wouldn't be worth it IMO.

Re: Could you do this and save money?

Short answer: if you don't understand it, don't do it.

(Sulpheric Acid) H2SO4 + (Ammonium Hydroxide) NH4OH = (Ammonium Sulfate) (NH4)2SO4 (the salt) + water = easily disposable and non-toxic.

If you have the knowledge, yes, you can do the chemistry - I did back in the day when I was too poor to replace the darn battery in my old Ford LTD.

All of these chemicals are readily available, but don't go down this path unless you understand and can calculate and convert the molar and pH of the reactants *correctly* for the ionic equations you are trying to perform.

Mishandled, these chemicals can do really bad things to lots of organic matter (like quickly dissolve skin), or produce excessive heat really quickly.

Man, I've seen a lot of shiz on this site to try and save money, but this seems a little redic. Certainly not worth the potential for serious bodily injury. Besides, the batteries are only a little more than $100, and you will likely get a discount if you get the Audi job. Remember, throw in a travel mug to seal the deal.
