    APR K04 "stock" mode?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have APR K04, FMIC, etc.
I have 2 maps with their "flip switch" setup. 91 "chipped" and 100 octane race. I was under the impression that you couldn't do "stock" unless you were stage 1 (not 1+ and above), since the injectors wouldn't let you get there.

I spoke to APR today and they said that for 1, 1+, K04, 3, 3+ they ALL offer a stock map. It is their version of stock. They say they mess with the timing, fuel, air, boost, etc.

Anyone have K04 and "stock" map?
The reason I am so concerned is I want better gas mileage. Maybe "stock" will get me higher than 22 or so mpg.

    Anyone?

By the look of your mods it may be that you're running a little rich due to the TP but because the K04 is more effective at generating thrust, IIRC, it provides better economy.

Is that 22 mpg highway? You should be able to top 30 mpg highway no problem...

Wait. Remove all the dead hookers from your trunk (no cheating, spare tire well too) and without the ballast you'll be all better. *jokes*

You will get better gas milage with the 91 program, that is what i found (93 program). The stock mode just runs a lower boost.

having run the 91 oct file for a year (at altitude)and the 93 oct file for about 8 months closer to sea level i can't say i really noticed a difference in the mpg between either program. There may be a difference, but it was negligible on my car. i consistantly get 23-25mpg depending on how i drive and what brand of fuel i run.

I was comparing 91/93 (since i dont have the 91 i have 93) to the stock mode. I got better fuel milage with the 91/93 program.

See it was my understanding that the map is "91 chipped" or your standard map for your ride. Then in addition you can get "stock" which is 91, but it lowers your boost, adjusts timing, fuel, air, etc. That would be less power than my normal 91 (forget completely about 93 and 100). Now I wonder if that is true?

    Re: APR K04 "stock" mode?

When they say "stock" all they mean is that runs stock boost levels. You will not get better gas milage running stock boost vs the chip file if both are used for part throttle driving since both are going to be in vacuum and this means they are making the same power. If anything chip is going to get you better gas mileage since you use less throttle to get the car moving before decreasing the throttle when you get up to speed. This also goes for the K04 or a larger turbo.

Now if you like going WOT its not going to matter what chip file your using since you will be eating thru fuel anyway.

My car drives beautifully, no problems, no lag, nothing i can feel at all. BUT if I drive to drive like a grandma and never accelerate fast, set cruise control at 75, no gunning it, nothing. I get bout 23mpg. I have seen people post on here that they get 28-30. I just dont ever see that kind of mpg. Either something is up with my car, they have something I dont, or they are just wrong! :)

Yeah there is an issue with your car causing it to burn more fuel then it should. Might want to start doing logs of the maf and 02 sensors. Also check the fuel trim readings on block 032, this will give you an idea if the maf/02 might be going bad or if you have a boost leak some where.

Maybe I need to axe the test pipe and have the shop near me do a thorough check of everything.
