    Re: Secondary Air Injection pump

Start you car up when the engine is cold like morning before work and listen for a spool, electric motor sound. Thats when it would kick in.

    Re: Secondary Air Injection pump

Its not something that the engine needs. It can be just removed and open ports can be blocked off. It will throw a CEL and stay on.

    Re: Secondary Air Injection pump

Before you go and replace it, take the flexible hose off. If water comes out you have a bad combi(sp?) valve. (the pump could still be ruined)

    Re: Secondary Air Injection pump

i have a cel for this as well. we replaced the rubber hose which was very worn out the the cel has stayed on.
what is the next step to try to diagnose here? hoping to find the problem before i just start throwing money at it.
    thanks...

    Re: Secondary Air Injection pump

My SAI pump has been unplugged for about two months now, due to it shorting out on me. The pump is what helps with the functionality of your catalytic converter(s); although the possible harm that can be done without it i am not sure of. The combi valve on the other hand, if there is water in the pump lines, can be the cause of failure. I have heard that the valve is a little bit harder to replace though. I've been to a few pull your own parts junkyards around my way and found i can get the pump for about $30.

    Re: Secondary Air Injection pump

It warms the CAT up when you start the car in order to reduce emissions. I pulled the pump out and I have a CEL, but F-it, itll go back in one day.
