Re: What is the best chip?

now don't hold me against this. One of my boys who used to work for Audi has told me if i were to chip, go with GIAC which will go easier on your engines... but this is coming from a guy who heard from another...

Re: What is the best chip?

You'll get a different answer all of the time. On these boards the GIAC is generally the more agressive. I've had the APR on my 1.8t, and 2.7t and loved them both. I may go GIAC on my A6 since a GIAC dealer opened up pretty close.

Generally the consensus is get whatever chip has a dealer close to you.

Re: What is the best chip?

I went with the APR over the Revo......
Revo is probably the softest for the 2.7T
    GIAC is the more aggressive
    and
APR is juuuussssttt right. Stock driveability, stealth switch back mode, easily upgradeable
I have been thrilled with it and have been running it for a year now. Best mod for 2.7T!!

Re: What is the best chip?

MTM- sort of in-house for Audi
    Revo
    GIAC
    APR

I've used MTM (TTQC) and make 230+ HP on a 180 engine. I've used GIAC (B5 Avant) and making 220 out of the 180 engine.

Like them both. The MTM is torquier, and the GIAC pulls longer (butt dyno)

Re: What is the best chip?

Go with whatever chip has the closest support. They're all pretty close in the real world, and fairly similar in price. Some have extra bells & whistles (i.e., APR has switchable programs via the turn signal stalk, GIAC and some others do flashloads that don't involve any modification of your ECU). But if you have a local shop that wil do it for you and support it, go with them.

Re: What is the best chip?

I bet a "blind" test would yield interesting results -- Guy who owned my car before me had both (APR and GIAC) and couldn't tell difference. Does anybody really ever toggle the APR to stock? Indy mechanic/Audi guru I use says GIAC. The other issue is engine warning light with GIAC, but....

Thanks guys, the APR sounds like the one I will be getting, I was thinking of maybe getting it done at Waterfest.

Re: What is the best chip?

I had APR chip my car last year at Waterfest. Even when it was just chipped, it made really strange timing logs. It never seemed to run properly and then my driver side K03 failed.

If could do that part over again, I would have gone with AWE (GIAC). Only because once my turbo failed and I spent thousands to replace the turbos, I then had software that really didn't work well with my car. APR's only offering was for me to lay out $5500 on the Stage 3 fueling kit.

If I had GIAC and swapped my K03s for K04s, I could have paid a little extra and gotten their Stage 3- (minus) file on my ECU instead.

I ended up having to pay $50 to have an APR dealer flash my car back to stock. Then I was able to get my money back from APR.

I honestly see no way for any of these programs to be "easier" than the others on your turbos. This is because all of them run the same boost levels. The only parameter in a program that directly affects the turbos is the boost map. Since they all basically request 1bar it's all the same. It's not like GIAC requests 20PSi...

I say that you should contact the companies and speak with their sales people and see how they sell their product. Also factor in how far you are from them or one of their dealers. If you get flashed and something goes wrong, do you want to have to mail your ECU away for a minimum of 3 days before getting it back? Lastly, plan for the future. If you decide to go K04, will you be able to upgrade from this software or will you have to start over 100%?

Those were the items that I should have factored into my buying decision back then.....

Re: What is the best chip?

I'm doing my piggies next weekend at home. I just have to get my friend to weld the new O2 sensor bungs on for me.

The bungs were $18 from Summit Racing and I bought a new set of downpipe gaskets ($18 too) so everything is fresh and sealed when I'm done.

    $36 piggies.
