Doing ANOTHER stage 3 swap...joy....but quick question

I'm doing the labor on my buddies S4 for him (getting paid with a set of OZ 18 inch superleggera's in mint condition almost with brand new tires), but I really don't want to pull the motor and tranny again like I did in my car. Can I just pull the motor in these cars WITHOUT pulling the tranny? I just want to save a few hours and not have to pull the half-shafts, and re-align the tranny. His car was from up north like mine and the rust on some of the bolts is a nightmare, especially on the suspension to swing it out of the way to get the halfshafts out. Thanks guys....

In order to separate the motor from the trans, you need to get enough distance from the input shaft to start tilting the motor upwards.

Once you have removed all the bell housing bolts, you would be able to get it to separate somewhat but, you probably will need the extra gap that requires sliding the trans back a bit. The trans isn't going anywhere without disconnecting the supports, axles and rear driveshaft.

It would just be easier to remove the trans too at that point......

I think your better off taking it all on in one shot, it might be a bia to get he input shaft aligned when its time to go back in.

DO you have a load leveler? those things can be a life saver

It's way easier to pull the motor and tranny together...

agreed motor and tranny together..."especially on the suspension to swing it out of the way to get the halfshafts out"... didn't see this necessary when I did my car, removed bolts for half shafts, pulled motor forward and up, and then removed halfshafts and clutch slave. They compress a little bit and can be removed with all suspension components in tact

You can do it, but you risk bending the input shaft if you are not careful.

    Another swap eh?

Your S4 still running good? and have you replaced that transmission yet?

and for the other guy, go big if you can afford it.
