    headlight conversion questions.

so ive found a couple sets of ecodes i think are a good price. problem is that they are for halogens. can anyone fill me in on why my xenon bulbs and ballasts will not work in these housings? what would i need to do in order to retrofit these into my car? im just really confused on the difference between the two setups(besides brightness, and im guessing xenons run hotter since theyre brighter?) so any info on them would be helpful. thanks!

    Re: headlight conversion questions.

I think they will work, but its a question about the glare. I guess the only real way to do it is to retrofit real xenon hid projectors in place of the halogen projector.

Supposely, theres a ecode replica on ebay for $199.99. I think osofast, sorry if I botched your name, bought a set and they look great!

no the projectors are the same, or at least not different enough to make a difference. the projector is the round piece the bulb goes in. its the glass dome the light reflects off of. i would just get an aftermarket kit as you will be cutting the housing anyways, i wouldnt spend the extra to try and fit stock.

huh? I thought the halogen projectors were way different and unsafe to use if an HID system were used because of glare. I thought the best legal way to do it was to get an oem projector already made to take an hid kit. If this isn't true, the bi-xenons I bought were a waste of money.

    Re: headlight conversion questions.

Either way, retrofitting halogens is first of all in most cases illegal, but not checked in states. Proper HID lens/set will give you proper beam pattern that's focused. Retrofitting will give better looking light but could in the end reduce visibility and piss off oncoming drivers. There was a discussion about it some time ago. In Europe laws are very strict about headlights.

    Re: headlight conversion questions.

HID projectors are optically different, even if they're not different in apearance and physical size and shape. And no, HIDs do not run hotter, they run considerably cooler than halogens. Buy a set of Valeo HID projectors and retrofit them into the housing, then buy 5GL ballasts and D1S bulbs. That's the right way of doing it.

The projectors can be found on eBay for less than 100$ a pair. Then, get this: http://www.hidconcept.com/Kits-valeo-d1s.html

    Re: headlight conversion questions.

i have both a halogen and single xenon projector sitting on my desk and i can guarantee you that the cutoff plates are identicle, as are the lenses. retrofitting xenons into anything other than projectors is another story, but a retrofit in halogen projectors is perfectly fine and wont blind anyone.

The lenses are not. HID lenses have different photometric properties. Halogen lenses with HID arcs behind them do not throw the correct beam pattern. It is conceptually impossible.

can i just take the bulbs and ballasts out of my stock lights and use them? instead of spending $300 on other ones? if not, i might as well buy xenon ecodes which i can just swap my stock stuff over to. it would be cheaper.

Sorry, I forgot that you already have the ballasts and bulbs. Yes, you can re-use them, if they are OE.

    Re: headlight conversion questions.

You can simply transfer your existing ballasts + bulbs to your E-code if your e-code headlights use the same D1S type bulbs. If they use halogen bulbs, you can still use your ballasts and we can get you a set of ignitors, D2S bulbs, and H7 adapters (PM me).
The projector is the magnifying glass looking lens inside the headlight housing.
Ecode projector provides sharper cut-off line as well as better lighting output than US version.
Buying a set of E-code valeo projectors to replace your halogen projectors, would not be a good option if you have not done a similar procedure before because it's is not easy to do. Hope this helps.
