Video (AWD Launching 101) Compilation of JHM cars

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My good friend made this for me. He is also best friends with the owner of VAST, so hence the Detroit intro. All these cars are customers of mine (JHM) and located in CA, just in case there is confusion. Also my car is in there of course.

Some of the footage is new and some of the footage is old. But a great compilation nonetheless. I didn't even know he was making this video, it was quite a surprise that he took all the video I had shared with him over the past year.

    Enjoy!

Well you see, you first need to start with a stage 3 bi-turbo v6. The rest is easy

Increase the revs, launch at 4500+ rpms (just make sure your clutch can handle it). I can get my wheels to spin w/o too much effort and I'm slower than you.

I don't see our soft driver-friendly clutches giving that hard bite needed to spin all four tires, or even hook up well. I think if I dropped the clutch at 4500, it'd just slip and bog.

Re: Video (AWD Launching 101) Compilation of JHM cars

I actually have my s4 in the process of being torn down in my garage, and I'm getting parts from jaybquick, including the clutch and shifter in the video. having said that, these are 2 completely different beasts. With all I have done to my b7 (k04 and every bolt on possible) its about even with my s4 that just had a chip, NOTHING ELSE. But launching the 2 cars is like night and day. The s4 clutch has 55k on it and it grabs and just shoots you forward, and thats even dumping it a little bit. The b7 you have to modulate and hit everything just right and it will send you springing forward. I've gotten the s4 to at least chirp 3 out of 4 times, but the b7 only 2 out of countless times w/ only 17k on the clock. They are just different clutches and way different to launch.

Hopefully when my build is done i'll be launching like the video ;)

I took my car to the track and launched above 4500rpms all night, the wheels did a little chirpping out of the hole with no smell of burning clutch. So the stock clutch is a "little" better then everyone may think. The car was yeilding 1.9-2.0 60' times all night and a best run of 8.85 in the 1/8 mile drag.

It seems like everyone else who Chirps/spins their wheels with just a chip is either not telling the truth or they are leaving out some vital factor about what they do when they launch their cars!

I floor the accelerator as the RPM hit 4000PRM (also tried 4500, 5000 etc) I sidestep the clutch Bammm nothing happens the car doesn't stall, the clutch doesn't slip. It just pauses and then takes off and gradually builds up speed.

    I have 245/35/19 tires.

you can't slamm your foot down with the b7, you have to modulate the clutch, and the best way is to have the revs going upward when you begin to let it out. but don't dump it and don't but your foot to the floor immediately. i rev it to between 3 and 4, and as its building up somewhere in that range i begin to let it out.

Thanks! Thats what I thought origionally but then I got the impression people were dumping it. I'll keep practicing the method you described and I'll see how you go.
The worst part I find is now that I have an AWE exhaust everyone notices when you try to take off fast, so I feel like an ASS most of the times I try.

you may feel like one, but practice not LOOKING like one, as in slingshotting your car forward like a rocket without bogging ;)

Thanks everyone. As my business grows I plan on getting into B6s and then B7s and see what I can make them do and what other products besides a shifter I can make for them.
