custom 3.5" catback--PICS!

started this project on friday, finished it up on sunday. total of 7-8 hours i say including trips to homedepot, or autozone for misc things. here are the things i bought from summitracing.com:

muffler: Dynatech 76-006352 - $98
tubing: (4) 45* bends Dynomax 41429 - $30.69 each
8' 3.5 straight tubing - $30
exhaust tips: Magnaflow 35125 - $35 each

grand total comes to $340.76 shipped

if i were to do this project again, i would only order 4' of straight 3.5" tubing, 2' of 2.25 tubing (to connect to dps) and 1' of 2.5" (for the exhaust tips), order 2 of the dynatech mufflers (fackin loud as is) and longer tips for appearance purposes only. Items i had lying around the house was a flowmaster header collector (dual 2.5" to 3.5") which i used to merge the dp's into the single 3.5". Project was very straight forward, cut the old catback out, testfitted the new piece by piece, marking where to cut, and what angles to weld at with a sharpie, then pulling it off to weld it. welder used was a hobart handler 140, no shielding gas. video clips soon to come.

Overall: amazing sound, even though it is loud. fitment is great and only came close to the frame of the car once (that was my fault) great ground clearance, not too heavy. Cant really think of any cons!

yes, but strangely enough ive usued piping from summit before, and they never rust.. my welds will rust because they are untreated, but the tubing stays mint!

clutch is on its way out, cant do much floorin'. the muffler probably doesnt help too much with sound level, but it makes it sound alot cleaner. ive ran straight pipes before and it sounded pretty bad, this muffler really makes the difference in tone, its amazing.

I got a couple extra 3.5" flex joints if you need, im actually building my 3.5 as well. Very little room under these things.

the tips are crooked now, the hangers must have settled a little bit since i installed it so ill have to fix that.

the only drone i get is at 80mph, 3100 rpms. thanks for the comments guys!

that would take some time, and personally i dont think i have the resources. the way i made mine was basically, start at the dp's, and go piece by piece back, marking and cutting each section. very time consuming, and if mass produced would have a huge quality control issue as my method is very hit or miss. if i took my time and made a jig for the whole thing, it would be a little bit more realistic in terms of distributing to the public. lastly, i would need a car with stock dp's to base this off. if you look at my pictures you can see where the 3.5" section branches off to the dual 2.25" to mate to the dp's, they are angled in a way that would not fit stock dp's. my dp's have test pipes on them, and were angled in such a way that i needed to make my catback the way i did. i would love to manufacture and sell this, but it would certainly take some time and effort on my part to get the ball rolling. if i were to sell it however, i could see myself selling this downpipe back for roughly $600-$575 unless i was able to purchase materials at wholesale
