Deal or No Deal

So making a long story short, I am in the market for a "newer" car now since my 02 1.8T is getting up to 100k miles mark. My girlfriend is going to a school close, that made me want to buy a larger car. I was looking at the 530xi or G35x. Both are in the 30k range with 30-40k miles and fully equipped (heated seats + Nav). Anyways, the plan was to find a good deal, get money around to finance in October, however, I just met this local guys 2 days ago with his 05 black on black USP (clear titile, V6 3.0, 39k ish, premium package, Bose + XM, shades... but no front & rear heated seat like my 02). I made my offer @15k cash. What do you guys think?

I did a search around and found several similar cars in my area asking for 18-20k but none got sold for quite a long time now. There was one sold on ebay yesterday for 15-16 ish. New A4 is also coming. I would love the price to be in the 14ish but that's hard to say at this time whether that's obtainable. oh ye, the car smells really bad, it's like the dude was smoking a lot in it + there is this little dent on the hood right next to the driver side headlight. The dude said a customer backed into his car few weeks ago.

Do you guys know anything I should be aware of for this model? I don't plan on doing any mod besides getting the windows tint. The V6 sounds much better than the 1.8T (i had my car side by side for comparision with his car). BTW, know what suprised me? This Audi 3.0 is faster than the new 328xi coupe. It's rated 0-60 @ 5.8 s while the 328xi rated 6.4s.

I dont know why it did not have heated seats since it's a 3.0. is this common on USP? don't you like your ass to be warm in winter?lol

Yeah, it is actually a good deal. But like others said, if u plan on modding it, 3.0 is not the way to with.

I paid more than that for a 1.8t just two weeks ago, it sounds like a deal. Albeit, doesn't the 3.0 suck more gas?

@Maverick: it's manufactured suggested reading. I highly doubt that the 328xi can do 0-60 in 6.4s, too. That number actually was the same number some magazine tested the 335xi coupe posted one or two months ago. That's with twin turbo. 05 3.0 produce more torgue than 328xi which is good enough for me coming from a stock 1.8T. Regarding USP, it's like S-line package if you were to order a new A4 nowaday --> no heated seat, no premium package in an S-line is possible except people rarely put money buying S-line package before getting premium package.

Anyways, I'm torn by the look and the price of this USP. IMO, even the new B7 doesn't look as good and it's one of a kind in this area. I thought of modding my 1.8T but it has been a year and never got any time to get any thing done so I'm sure I can live happy with a 3.0. What I'm confused on now is that whether it's worth to put almost 18k after tax on this car or wait and spend some extra money on a 530xi, G35x or even a newer A4??? What would you guys do if you guys were in my shoes?

you now going to get much for you car. just buy that USP and have two cars. drive that 02 until it blows up or something. you can swap parts or sell parts and make money.

He probably just saw what the rest were going for, $15K sounded amazing for an 05 3.0, but you can probably make a deal from $20K.

I checked kbb and private sale is roughly 18ish, while trade-in is around 16 which makes this car worth no more than 17k to me at this time. This is pre-09 launch. There should be a huge drop after October since the B6 will worth next to nothing like the B5 nowaday.

I've been watching prices for A4 avants and other cars lately, and I've noticed that nothing's really following book value nowadays. I picked up my B6 avant a few weeks ago for a couple $k below book, from a dealer.

exactly, that's what i thought too. The kbb is there for a good reason but somehow, it created a price ceiling for the market. people with cars to sell want at least that much on the kbb but the buyers sure think only stuffs below kbb is a good deal.... however, this dude is a tough one for me. I showed too much interest in the car when i first met him. Besides, he wasn't selling it in the first place, at least, not until i asked him if he was gonna sell the car anytime soon.

i've never paid more than kbb-trade-in on perfect used cars , audi a4 included. be patient. the deal will come. why upgrade to the b7 same interior. go for the S5 :)
