    Re: noise?

ticking? is it from the motor or no? a ticking noise is usually an exhaust leak... maybe that will help you. try to look under the car thats where you should hear the ticking hopefully.... a dying fuel pump sounds like a dying fuel pump lol it whines!

    Re: noise?

Not sure what is actually inside are motors, but from when i had my eclipse they were notorious for ticking/tapping during cold starts and that was due to a bad hydralic lifter.

    Re: noise?

Some valve noise at startup is normal. The aging upper end of our heads do not have the tolerances that they did when they were new. Cam lobes have worn a little etc. As the heads fill with oil, the noise subsides and will still be there a little. and actually will become a little more noisy again as the oil thins and warms up. The 2.7t is known for valvetrain noise. As long as it goes away after about 5-15 seconds, you should be fine. Most owners manuals even describe this as being normal operating issues. the key is if it is coming from the top of the engine or somewhere else. Have someone who is experienced listen to your car at a cold start. They should be able to determine if you have an issue or not.

Just a guess, but I'll second the lifter tap. Pretty common. How many miles on your car? Last oil change?

the belt could be the trick... has the timing belt ever been done? i ask because when you replace that you have new fresh belts in there everything is tight again

I still think lifters. Any chance you can get a short video/audio of start up?

The leak could be going away after the exhaust is warmed up. But it's not a very high quality video from a phone, so it's difficult without actually hearing it to tell.

    Re: noise?

If not exhaust, maybe lifters. But again, just a guess without actually hearing it. The videos up so maybe others will chime in.

    Re: noise?

It's your valves (lifters). What kind of oil are you running? I've found better luck w/ Castrol, Redline, and RP over Mobil 1 (which tends to be louder when cold). My experience w/ Mobil 1, they always give you more audible lifter tick than other oils.

Yes...4G63's do this as well, but it's not always the lifter (for a fresh motor will do this as well).

Yeah that's what it sounded like to me. but yes a valve issue sounds the same. or i've even heard in some cars you can hear the ticking for the injectors? not sure though. Hope you find out what it is

    Re: noise?

i get the same exact noise, but mine occurs if i drive like a granny for a while and dont push it... i'm currently running amsoil 5w-40. this is the 1st time I've used amsoil in this car. i normally run castrol. Would it be good to change back to castrol? or do you think it could be the cam tensioner? My noise is specifially coming from the driver's side front of the engine where the tensioner is located. should i try to change the tensioner gasket first? or what? not really ready to drop the cash on a new tensioner seeing how it is $500+ for parts alone.

The car rarely makes the sounds when cold, but rather after a slow drive. do you think i just have some crappy carbon build up?

    Re: noise?

Anyone have any luck with this? I was looking throught the bentley dvd last night and looked into the valves and read how to check them. I noticed a note at the bottom of the screen that read:

"If irregular valve noise occurs repeatedly during short journeys and disappears after extended driving, the oil check valve must be replaced."

It gave me a link on how to replace them. I printed and scanned it if anyone wants to look at it to maybe see if it's the issue. Has anyone ever had to change an "oil check valve"???
