Complication of installing double din on 99.5?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well I searched and found many topics but most relate to 99 and lower. I have a 99.5 and was looking to do double din. Now I know I have to swap the console and bracket for a double din now I guess my only real question is will the double din radio plug right up and as well the HAVC unit becasue I don't want to do any rewiring or coding just incase I was to put the old on back in sometime. I am mainly doing this becasue I really want s4 woodgrain and want the center console pieces to fit and they wont on 99.5 console. Just a few quick answers will do. Thanks.

I think you need to know if the connectors on the back of the radio and climate control will all match up. I'm guessing an audi dealership can tell you that maybe..? I've thought about going double din too (I have a 98 A4) but decided it would be a lot of work switching connectors and rewiring. Good luck!

Yes thats what I was thinking since its the same connectors just making sure. Also I have a 6 disc in the back that is hooked up to my concert when I switch the unit will it still work. Thanks.

Just the symphony for because I don't need any nav. basically I'm looking to do the stock console for a 2000-2001 just so I can put s4 woodgrain on my car.

I just another question would be if in the future I wanted navigation could I upgrade to the First navigation plus unit and have it still be plug and play. The RNS-D NOT the new RNS-E. I think its the one that came as a upgrade for b5 a4 and s4 models. Thanks.

Ok I have asked this question since I got my car, lol. You will need the Double Din cage and a 2000+ HVAC unit because ours will not work on the double din cage.

Ya man thank I knew that I needed the cage, hvac and radio. The only 2 questions I was wondering is do I need the console or just the cage and will everything just plug and play.

i have done the swap for RNS-D nav+. The plugs for the Climate control and radio are all the same. No need to rewire anything. The only thing I will tell you is that you need to get a center console out of a 00+ because the 00+ radio cage WILL not fit in the 99.5 center console. Please feel free to contact me with your questions. I have pictures but I am at work and they are on my home machine

Wow man thats great thats all the info I needed to hear. I will contact you for the pics just to see what its like. I guess the only last question would be do I need to route a antenna behind the dash or does it just use the stock one. Thanks.
