Aftermarket MT shift knob for B6 S4...?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey,

Wondering who might have changed out their MT shift knob for an aftermarket one, what they chose and what they had to do to get it to fit with the existing boot?

I'm looking for one that does not use the groove/flat spot on the shifter to line up, rather one that's tightened by a small bolt or two. I'm doing this because mine has a counter clockwise twist to the pattern. I might resort to popping off the top image, rotating and gorilla gluing back in place.

I replaced both the knob and leather with MOMO.

Where did you get it, and what did you purchase?
    Is the alignment adjustable?
How is the fit and finish?

Did you put the lens hood on for this shot...? :)

I got at MJMautohaus. It's not cheap. Can't remember how much it was but it was pricey. Well worth it though. Both are very high quality.
The knob is held on by 3 screws, making it adjustable.
I think finish speaks for it self from the photo

That's a fisheye lens, it has a hood on it.

I swapped mine with an Edition 30 knob from my old GTI. The mk5 stuff shares the same shaft design that the b6 has..

Alignment needs to be adjustable and from what I can tell Audi's and VW's are not. Momo is winning at the moment.

@winston: I was going to say that I bought my stuff before I saw yours. Kind of feel bad for having something almost exactly the same as someone else.

@B18b1ex: you did an awesome job

I also thought about MKV GTI knob. Those look and feel great. Mine gets extremely hot in the summer.

I ordered the Momo Air Leather. I'll post a picture once I've got it installed.

Will I be able to use the stock boot?

Once you've been just about burned grabbing the aluminum knobs on a nice, clear, hot, sunny day, you don't forget... :)

Re: Aftermarket MT shift knob for B6 S4...?

so you guys running momo knobs, do they just attach right onto the leather fine with the stock ring? How do you get them to looking right where the leather boot hits the knob?

I am picking up this in the next few days, so i could use the help:

Re: Aftermarket MT shift knob for B6 S4...?

I run both knob and leather from MOMO. Leather has a plastic piece on top that is threaded so it just screws right on.

Re: Aftermarket MT shift knob for B6 S4...?

I'm using the stock leather boot...

To remove the stock knob from the boot, you have to compress all the tabs inward (one of mine broke in the process).
There is a plastic collar used with the stock boot and knob.
Take a small hose clamp and put it on the shifter.
Put the plastic collar on top of that.
    Put the shift boot on.
Put the Momo knob on and fasten.
    Pull the boot up.
Pull the hose clamp up and tighten, so that it and the plastic collar keep the boot as close as possible to the momo knob.
